Carman
In Celtic mythology, Carman or Carmun was a warrior and sorceress from Athens who tried to invade Ireland in the days of the Tuatha Dé Danann, along with her three sons, Dub ("black"), Dother ("evil") and Dian ("violence"). She used her magical powers to destroy all the fruit of Ireland. Four of the Tuatha Dé Danann, Crichinbel, Lug, Bé Chuille and Aoi, challenged Carman and her sons. The sons were forced to leave Ireland, and Carman was imprisoned. She died of longing and was buried in Wexford among oak trees. Her grave was dug by Bres. The place she was buried was called Carman after her, and the Tuatha Dé Danann are said to have instituted an Óenach Carmán, or Festival of Carmán. Celtic historian Peter Berresford Ellis describes her as "a goddess who came to Ireland from Athens with her three ferocious sons—Calma (Valiant), Dubh (Black) and Olc (Evil). Carman is a small agricultural town of about 3,000 people in the Pembina Valley Region of southern Manitoba, Canada. Carman is at the junction of Highways 3 and 13, 40 minutes southwest of Winnipeg. Carman was a provincial electoral division in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It was created by redistribution in 1999, with territory from Lakeside, Morris, and the now-defunct riding of Gladstone. Carman was located in the southern region of Manitoba. It was bordered to the north by Portage la Prairie, to the west by Turtle Mountain, to the east by Morris, and to the south by Pembina and Emerson. The riding was mostly rural. It included the communities of Carman, Somerset, Treherne, St. Claude, Notre Dame de Lourdes, Miami and Elm Creek. Carman also included the Long Plain Reserve, the Dakota Reserve, the Swan Lake Reserve and the Spruce Woods Provincial Park. The riding's population in 1996 was 18,867. The Carman Subdivision is a railroad line owned by CSX Transportation in the U.S. state of New York. The line is located in and near Schenectady along a former New York Central Railroad line. It connects the Hudson Subdivision in Schenectady with the Selkirk Subdivision at Rotterdam. A horse-drawn vehicle is a mechanized piece of equipment pulled by one horse or by a team of horses. These vehicles typically had two or four wheels and were used to carry passengers and/or a load. Car-Man (russian: Кар-Мэн) is a Russian technopop band. It was one of the top Soviet/Russian bands in the early and mid nineties. Car-Man created a massive fan following that ranged from music and dance to hair styles and speech. The band won a number of top prizes in 1991. Car-Man was formed in 1989 by Sergey Lemokh and Bogdan Titomir.
