Carlos Torre Repetto Memorial
The Torre Memorial is an annual chess tournament played in honour of the chess legend Carlos Torre Repetto (1905–1978). It is played in Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico. The first edition was played in 1987, and from a relatively weak tournament, it has now grown into a strong international tournament. Yuniesky Quesada
Yuniesky Quesada Pérez (born July 31, 1984) is a Cuban-American chess player. He was awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE in 2005. Quesada is the fourth Cuban to surpass the 2600 Elo rating mark, which he did on the FIDE list of July 2010. Alexander Onischuk (; born September 3, 1975) is a Ukrainian-American chess player. He was awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE in 1994, and won the 2006 U.S. championship. Career In 1991 Onischuk finished second in the world under 16 championship and in 1993 he was fourth in the world junior championship, tying for first and finished second on tie-breaks two years later. In 2000 he won the Ukrainian Championship. He represented Ukraine in the Chess Olympiad in 1994, 1996 and 1998. Onischuk immigrated to the United States in 2001. Lázaro Bruzón Batista (born 2 May 1982 in Holguín) is a Cuban-American chess grandmaster. He is a former World Junior Champion, two-times American Continental champion, two-time Iberoamerican champion and five-time Cuban champion. He was awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE in 1988. A leading player since 1988, Ivanchuk has been ranked at No. 2 on the FIDE world rankings three times (July 1991, July 1992, October 2007).
