Carlos Salas Salas
Carlos Ignacio Salas Salas was the third Mayor of the commune of Pichilemu, office which he held together with Francisco Javier Asalgado between May and September 1909, and following an appeals court rule, he completed his three-year term alone, between September 1909 and May 1912. Biography Political career Salas Salas ran for the office of ''primer alcalde'' of Pichilemu for the 1909–12 term. The elections were held in March 1909, but the results were controversial, and Salas Salas disputed the office with Francisco Javier Asalgado until September, when an appeals court ruled in favor of Salas Salas, who held the mayor office until 1912. He was later elected ''tercer alcalde'' for the 1912–15, and 1918–21 terms. Francisco Javier Asalgado was a Chilean politician. He was the second and fourth mayor of the commune of Pichilemu, an office which he held between May 1905 and September 1909, and between May and September 1912. Biography Political career In 1900, Francisco Javier Asalgado was elected ''segundo alcalde'' of Pichilemu, as José María Caro Martínez began his third term as mayor (''primer alcalde'') of the commune. He was re-elected ''segundo alcalde'' of the commune in 1903. However, on 7 May 1905, just one year short of the end of his term, José María Caro Martínez resigned as mayor and decided to complete his term only as a ''regidor''. In spite of this, the city council named Francisco Javier Asalgado as the acting ''primer alcalde''. He served the remainder of Caro Martínez's term, which lasted until the next year. Pichilemu (, ), originally known as Pichilemo, is a beach resort city and commune in central Chile, and capital of Cardenal Caro Province in the O'Higgins Region. The commune comprises an urban centre and twenty-two villages, including Ciruelos, Cáhuil, and Cardonal de Panilonco. It is located southwest of Santiago. Pichilemu had over 13,000 residents as of 2012. The Pichilemu area was long populated by the indigenous Promaucaes. European-Chilean development began in the mid-sixteenth century, as ''conquistador'' Pedro de Valdivia gave Juan Gómez de Almagro the Topocalma encomienda (which included the current territory of Pichilemu) in January 1541. Mayor Of Pichilemu
The Mayor of Pichilemu is an elected politician who is the head of the executive branch of government of the commune of Pichilemu, Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins Region, Chile. The mayor presides over the local city council, composed of six members, and serves as the civic representative of the commune. The mayor is popularly elected in a municipal election, by simple majority. The office is held for a four-year term without term limits. Forty different individuals, including acting mayors, have held the office of mayor since the commune of Pichilemu was created in December 1891. José María Caro Martínez, elected in 1894, was the inaugural mayor of the commune, and served for almost four consecutive terms, interrupted by his resignation in 1905.
