Carlos Meléndez (singer)
Carlos Javier Meléndez Sauri (born 10 April 1965 in Hato Rey, Puerto Rico, Hato Rey, Puerto Rico) is a Puerto Rican architect and singer who is a former member of Menudo (band), Menudo. Meléndez is a cousin of band creator Edgardo Diaz, who had success as director of La Pandilla in Spain and who admired the success obtained by The Jackson 5 in the United States. Carlos Meléndez and his brothers, Óscar Meléndez, Oscar and Ricky Meléndez, Ricky, wore curly hair, a style which was popular during the 1970s. In 1977, Diaz created Menudo, asking Carlos and his brothers to become band members, along with Fernando and Nefty Sallaberry, who are also brothers. Carlos Meléndez lasted in Menudo until mid 1980, barely missing out on the group's golden era. The only Meléndez brother to participate during Menudo's era of worldwide fame was Ricky. Hato Rey, Puerto Rico
Hato Rey is a former barrio located in the northwest part of the dissolved municipality of Río Piedras, Puerto Rico, Río Piedras. It now stretches over three Barrios of Puerto Rico, barrios, of the municipality of San Juan, Puerto Rico, San Juan, Puerto Rico: Urban landscape Its name means "king's cattle farm" (''w:es:Hato, hato''). In the 18th century, cattle would roam among the sugar cane fields in the area. Its proximity to residential areas such as Old San Juan, San Juan, Río Piedras, Puerto Rico, Río Piedras, Miramar (Santurce), Miramar made it a perfect location from where to produce what its residents would eat. The area also used to be known as ''Las Monjas'' (the nuns) due to a convent that used to be located in the area in the 19th century. The Northern portion of Hato Rey is a startling contrast between blight and poverty and ''Milla de Oro, La Milla de Oro'' (The Golden Mile), a stretch that effectively covers only one mile but that is home to the headquarters ...
