Carll S. Burr, Jr.
Carll Smith Burr Jr. (September 26, 1858 in Commack, Suffolk County, New York – January 2, 1936 in Commack, Suffolk Co. NY) was an American politician from New York. Life He was the son of Carll S. Burr (1831–1916) and Emma Frances (Case) Burr (1839–1907). He attended Huntington Union School and Flushing Institute. Then he entered his father's business and became nationally known as a horse breeder. On November 18, 1885, he married Harriet E. Carll (1862–1945), and they had two children. He was a judge at the National Horse Shows of 1892, 1893 and 1894. He was a delegate to the 1892 Republican National Convention. In the 1896 presidential election, he was a presidential elector for William McKinley and Garret Hobart. Burr Jr. was a member of the New York State Assembly (Suffolk Co., 2nd D.) in 1896, 1897 and 1898. The 129th New York State Legislature, consisting of the New York State Senate and the New York State Assembly, met from January 3 to May 3, 1906, during the second year of Frank W. Higgins's governorship, in Albany. Background Under the provisions of the New York Constitution of 1894, 50 Senators and 150 assemblymen were elected in single-seat districts; senators for a two-year term, assemblymen for a one-year term. The senatorial districts were made up of entire counties, except New York County (twelve districts), Kings County (seven districts), Erie County (three districts) and Monroe County (two districts). Orlando Hubbs
Orlando Hubbs (February 18, 1840 – December 5, 1930) was an American carriage builder, ship's joiner and politician. He moved from New York to North Carolina in 1865, where he helped organize the Republican Party in the state. He served as a U.S. Congressman from North Carolina between 1881 and 1883. Early life and education Born in Commack, New York on Long Island, Hubbs attended local schools. He moved to Northport, New York in 1856 and learned the trade of a carriage and wagon builder. He subsequently became employed as a ship’s joiner at Hunters Point, New York during the American Civil War. Political career In 1865, Hubbs moved to New Bern, North Carolina and became engaged in mercantile pursuits. He took an active part in organizing the Republican Party in North Carolina. Richard Higbie (July 11, 1857 in West Islip, Suffolk County, New York – April 10, 1900 in Babylon, Suffolk Co., New York) was an American politician from New York. Life He attended the public schools, and then became a merchant. He was Supervisor of the Town of Babylon for four years. Higbie was a member of the New York State Assembly (Suffolk Co.) in 1893, 1894 and 1895. He was a member of the New York State Senate (1st D.) from 1896 to 1898, sitting in the 119th, 120th and 121st New York State Legislatures. He was also a member of the New York State Republican Committee. He died on April 10, 1900, at his home in Babylon, New York, of "heart disease".
