Carleton Young
Captain Carleton Scott Young (October 21, 1905 – November 7, 1994) was an American character actor who was known for his deep voice. Early years Born in Fulton, Oswego, New York, Young was the second and only surviving child of State Highway Civil Engineer Joseph Henry Young and Minna Emma Pauline "Minnie" Adler. His parents were married September 18, 1897, in Marlborough, Essex, Massachusetts. They were divorced by 1920. Neither ever remarried. Young's elder brother; Reginald Adler Young, lived for 26 days in 1902, and died of an acute infection and convulsions. Young grew up in Syracuse, New York, but was living in Ogden, Utah, with his divorced father by 1930. Military service Young enlisted in the U. S. ''Reefer Madness'' (originally made as ''Tell Your Children'' and sometimes titled ''The Burning Question'', ''Dope Addict'', ''Doped Youth'', and ''Love Madness'') is a 1936 American propaganda film about drugs, revolving around the melodramatic events that ensue when high school students are lured by pushers to try marijuana upon trying it, they become addicted, eventually leading them to become involved in various crimes such as a hit and run accident, manslaughter, murder, conspiracy to murder and attempted rape. While this is all happening they suffer hallucinations, descend into insanity, associate with organized crime and (in one character's case) commit suicide. The film was directed by Louis J. ''The New York Times'' described the title character as "the beautiful daughter of an impoverished farmhand who had married above her station in life." She was played for the entire run of the series by Anne Elstner. Her husband Stephen Dallas was portrayed at various times by Leo McCabe, Arthur Hughes and Frederick Tazere. The Billy the Kid series of 42 Western films was produced between 1940 and 1946, and released by Poverty Row studio Producers Releasing Corporation. The initial six star Bob Steele as Billy the Kid who left PRC to return to Republic Pictures. The next thirteen star Buster Crabbe as Billy the Kid, and the following 23 feature Crabbe as the same character, renamed "Billy Carson". All 42 films in the series are directed by Sam Newfield, "America's most prolific sound film director", sometimes under pseudonyms.
