Carla Guelfenbein Dobry (born November 30, 1959) is a Chilean writer, winner of the :es:Premio Alfaguara de Novela, Alfaguara Novel Prize in 2015 for her book ''Contigo en la distancia''. Guelfenbein has published six novels; The most recent one is called ''La estación de las mujeres'' and it was published in April 2019. Early life and education Carla Guelfenbein Dobry was born in :es:Santiago de Chile, Santiago, :es:Chile, Chile, in 1959. She is of Russian-Jewish origin. She was exiled with her parents to England in 1976 as a result of the 1973 Chilean coup d'état, military coup of September 11, 1973 which meant the fall of the Popular Unity (Chile), Popular Unity government. Her house had been raided and her mother, Eliana Dobry, professor of philosophy at the University of Chile and socialist militant, was detained by Augusto Pinochet, Pinochet's agents; her whereabouts were unknown for three weeks. The Santiago International Book Fair (''Spanish: Feria Internacional del Libro de Santiago, FILSA'') is an annual book fair held in Santiago, Chile, during October–December. It is organised by the Chilean Chamber for Books (''Cámara Chilena del Libro''). History The Santiago Book Fair was created in 1981 as a national event, an initiative of then mayor of Santiago, Carlos Bombal. It was originally held in Parque Forestal, behind the Chilean National Museum of Fine Arts, National Museum of Fine Arts; from 1989 it has been held in the Estación Mapocho, Estación Mapocho Cultural Center. In 1990 the event was expanded to become an international book fair and in 2011, for the first time, it featured a section dedicated to electronic books. That year, a total of 260,000 people visited the book fair, with more than 500 cultural activities, 400 writers and more than 700 publishers represented in more than 10,000 metres squared of exhibits.
