Carl Hansen (Wisconsin Politician)
Carl Hansen (January 3, 1866 – January 3, 1918) was an American farmer, businessman, and politician. Born in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, Hansen was a farmer. Later, he was in the fire insurance and real estate business. Hansen was a Democrat. He served as assessor, treasurer, and harbor master for the City of Manitowoc. In 1898 and 1899, Hansen served on the Manitowoc Common Council. From 1911 until his death in 1918, Hansen served in the Wisconsin State Assembly The Wisconsin State Assembly is the lower house of the Wisconsin Legislature. Manitowoc () is a city in and the county seat of Manitowoc County, Wisconsin, United States. The city is located on Lake Michigan at the mouth of the Manitowoc River. According to the 2020 census, Manitowoc had a population of 34,626, with over 50,000 residents in the surrounding communities. The Wisconsin State Assembly is the lower house of the Wisconsin Legislature. Together with the smaller Wisconsin Senate, the two constitute the legislative branch of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. Representatives are elected for two-year terms, elected during the fall elections. If a vacancy occurs in an Assembly seat between elections, it may be filled only by a special election. The Wisconsin Constitution limits the size of the State Assembly to between 54 and 100 members inclusive. Since 1973, the state has been divided into 99 Assembly districts apportioned amongst the state based on population as determined by the decennial census, for a total of 99 representatives. Walter Wittman
Walter Wittman (March 8, 1857 – ?) was an American newspaper executive and politician. Born in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, Wittman was the editor of the Manitowoc Post a Gernam language newspaper and later worked for the Manitowoc Daily Herald newspaper. Wittman was also a member of the printers union. In a special February 1918 election, Wittman was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly succeeding Carl Hansen who died in office.
