Carex Bromoides
''Carex bromoides'', known as brome-like sedge, brome-sedge, and dropseed of the woods, is a species of sedge in the genus '' Carex''. It is native to North America. Taxonomy ''Carex bromoides'' was described by Carl Ludwig Willdenow in 1805. It has two accepted subspecies: *''Carex bromoides'' subsp. ''bromoides'' — broadly distributed across eastern North America *''Carex bromoides'' subsp. ''montana'' Naczi — restricted to Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina ''Carex bromoides'' subsp. ''montana'' has larger features including wider culms and leaf blades, as well as proportionately longer perigynium beaks. Distribution and habitat ''Carex bromoides'' ranges across most of eastern North America, including Mexico, the United States, and Canada. Carl Ludwig Willdenow
Carl Ludwig Willdenow (22 August 1765 – 10 July 1812) was a German botanist, pharmacist, and plant taxonomist. He is considered one of the founders of phytogeography, the study of the geographic distribution of plants. Willdenow was also a mentor of Alexander von Humboldt, one of the earliest and best known phytogeographers. He also influenced Christian Konrad Sprengel, who pioneered the study of plant pollination and floral biology. Biography Willdenow was born in Berlin and studied medicine and botany at the University of Halle. After studying pharmaceutics at Wieglieb College, Langensalza and in medicine at Halle, he returned to Berlin to work at his father's pharmacy located in the Unter den Linden. His early interest in botany was kindled by his uncle J. G. Gleditsch and he started a herbarium collection in his teenage years. In 1794 he became a member of the Berlin Academy of Sciences. The Cyperaceae are a family of graminoid (grass-like), monocotyledonous flowering plants known as sedges. A wet meadow is a type of wetland with soils that are saturated for part or all of the growing season. Debate exists whether a wet meadow is a type of marsh or a completely separate type of wetland. Wet prairies and wet savannas are hydrologically similar. Wet meadows may occur because of restricted drainage or the receipt of large amounts of water from rain or melted snow.
