Prince William County is located on the Potomac River in the U.S. state of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population sits at 482,204, making it Virginia's second-most populous county. Its county seat is the independent city of Manassas. A part of Northern Virginia, Prince William County is part of the Washington metropolitan area. History At the time of European colonization, the native tribes of the area that would become Prince William County were the Doeg, an Algonquian-speaking sub-group of the Powhatan tribal confederation. When John Smith and other English explorers ventured to the upper Potomac River beginning in 1608, they recorded the name of a village the Doeg inhabited as ''Pemacocack'' (meaning "plenty of fish" in their language). Woodbridge Senior High School is a public secondary school located in Lake Ridge (north-west of Woodbridge), Prince William County, Virginia, United States. History The school was founded in 1964 in the Marumsco Hills Subdivision due to extensive development of the Woodbridge community, by Cecil D. Hylton. Classes were originally held at 2201 York Drive (now Woodbridge Middle School). Classes moved to the current building (3001 Old Bridge Road) in 1974. The first class to graduate having attended the full four years at the current building was the class of 1978. Geography Woodbridge Senior High School is located at (34.683826, -105.386308). The school is located at 10504 Kettle Run Road, Nokesville, Virginia. The school opened in September 2011. Originally simply "High School #11," Kettle Run High School was the working name of the new high school in the western portion of Prince William County, Virginia that was completed in September 2011. Referred to in documents of July 2006 as "High School (West)," the property is named for its geographic region, located NW of Nokesville, Virginia. The school property itself is located near the intersection of Schaeffer Lane and Kettle Run Road in a triangle of land south of Vint Hill Road (Route 215) and west of Kettle Run Road. Unity Reed High School is a public secondary school in Bull Run, Prince William County, Virginia, near the city of Manassas. It was formerly known as Stonewall Jackson High School. In May 2007, ''Newsweek'' magazine ranked Unity Reed 530th in the nation on its annual list of "Best High Schools in America". In 2001, ''Time'' named Unity Reed as a High School of the Year. Administration The principal of Unity Reed High School is Richard Nichols. He has been the principal since 2007. Naming controversy The school was named after Stonewall Jackson, a Confederate general. Osbourn Park High School is a Prince William County, Virginia public high school in a small county island between the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park, southwest of Washington D.C. Osbourn Park serves the mid-part of the county. The community consists of business, professional, U.S. Government and military residents. Osbourn Park has also been designated as The Biotechnology Center and houses two other unique programs: Allied Health and NJROTC. Osbourn High School
Osbourn High School is a public school for grades 9–12 located in Manassas, Virginia, United States and the sole high school of the Manassas City Public Schools system. History Osbourn High School history goes back to 1890 when it was named the Manassas Institute. Miss Eugenia H. Osbourn came to Manassas and was named assistant principal. In 1908, the Institute became part of the Virginia Public School system and was renamed the Manassas Agricultural High School. In 1928, a new school was built on Lee Avenue and the school became Manassas High School. Ms. Eugenia Osbourn remained principal of this high school until 1935. In 1939, the school was renamed Osbourn High School in her honor. Haymarket, Virginia
Haymarket is a town in Prince William County, Virginia, United States. The population was 1,552 as of the 2020 census. History Haymarket is on land that was a hunting ground of the western Iroquois nations, who came from the New York and Pennsylvania area around the Great Lakes. They used hunting paths through here until 1722, when they made a treaty with the colonies of Virginia and New York to move into the Blue Ridge Mountain region. Due to the hunting paths, this location, and later the town, were given the nickname ''The Crossroads''. The town of Haymarket was developed here after the American Revolutionary War, formally founded in 1799 on the land of William Skinker. The Virginia General Assembly gave Skinker the rights to lay out the town, which he drew to consist of 13 streets and 140 lots. Geography Dumfries is located at (38.567853, −77.324591). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.6 square miles (4.1 km2), all of it land. History The history of Dumfries began as early as 1690 when Richard Gibson erected a gristmill on Quantico Creek. Woodbridge is a census-designated place (CDP) in Prince William County, Virginia, United States, located south of Washington, D.C.. Bounded by the Occoquan and Potomac rivers, Woodbridge had 44,668 residents at the 2020 census. Potomac Senior High School is a public secondary school in unincorporated Prince William County, Virginia, United States; just outside Dumfries. Potomac Senior High School, which serves the nearby incorporated town of Dumfries was established in 1981. When the school first opened there were only freshmen and the students went to school. Originally the campus was located at 15941 Cardinal Drive ( Woodbridge address), what is now the Dr. A. J. Ferlazzo Building. A year and a half later the current school was opened up and the freshmen and sophomores moved there during the Christmas break. The current school is at 3401 Panther Pride Drive (Dumfries, Virginia address). Panther Pride Drive was originally named "Four Year Trail." Gar-Field Senior High School is a senior high school in Woodbridge in unincorporated Prince William County, Virginia, USA, with students in grades 9 through 12. Established in 1953, it was originally located at 15941 Cardinal Drive until the current school opened in 1972 on 14000 Smoketown Road. It has recently been one of the largest high schools in Virginia, with enrollment peaking at over 3,000. History The high school's motto is "The School of Champions" and they have been rivals with Woodbridge High School for many years. The name Gar-Field is derived from two prominent local families, the Garbers and the Manderfields, who donated the land for the original school just off of U.S. Highway #1.
