Cardiff International Airport
Cardiff Airport ( cy, Maes Awyr Caerdydd) is the only airport offering commercial passenger services in Wales. It has been under the ownership of the Welsh Government since March 2013, operating at an arm's length as a commercial business. Passenger numbers were 1.66 million in 2019 and were increasing year-on-year. Since 2020, like most other airports, Cardiff Airport has suffered a major downturn in passengers due to the Covid-19 pandemic. These however have failed to recover, and passenger numbers are now down to those experienced in the 1960s. Company In 2013, the Welsh Government purchased Cardiff International Airport Ltd (CIAL) from TBI Ltd as a going concern for £52million. Glamorgan County Council was established in 1889 together with the administrative county of Glamorganshire under the Local Government Act 1888. Royal Air Force Pengam Moors (or more simply RAF Pengam Moors, or also known as RAF Cardiff) is a former Royal Air Force station and maintenance unit (MU), located on the Pengam Moors area of Tremorfa, 2 miles south east of Cardiff city centre in Wales from June 1938 to January 1946. Prior to RAF service the site served as a private aerodrome later called Cardiff Municipal Airport. After the Second World War the airfield reverted to private commercial flying until closure in 1954 when all services were transferred to the larger Rhoose Airport. Alan Tindal Lennox-Boyd, 1st Viscount Boyd of Merton, CH, PC, DL (18 November 1904 – 8 March 1983), was a British Conservative politician.
