Carbery GAA
Carbery GAA is a Gaelic football and Hurling division in the south-west area of County Cork, Ireland. The division is one of eight divisions of the Cork County Board and a division is responsible for organising competitions for the clubs within the division from Under 12 up to adult level The winners of these competitions compete against other divisional champions to determine which club is the county champion. In addition, the division selects football and hurling teams from the adult teams playing at junior level or county intermediate level, and these then compete for the Cork GAA Senior Football Championship and Cork Senior Hurling Championship. The Carbery division consists of 26 clubs from Bandon in the east to Bantry Blues in the west. Gaelic Football
Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. A goal is awarded for kicking the ball under the crossbar into the net (the ball cannot be hand-passed into the goal), signalled by the umpire raising a green flag. Dohenys
Dohenys is a Gaelic Athletic Association club, fielding Gaelic football and Hurling teams in the town of Dunmanway, County Cork, Ireland. It won its only Cork Senior Club Football Championship in 1897. Other titles won include 2 Cork Intermediate Football Championships in 1972 and 1995, and 3 Cork Junior Football Championships in 1935, 1966, and 1993. In 2007, the club won its first ever county hurling championship when it won the Cork Junior B Hurling Championship. The club is part of the Carbery division of Cork. The Sam Maguire Cup which is presented to the All-Ireland winning football team each year is named after Dunmanway's most famous son, Sam Maguire who is buried in St. Mary's Graveyard. Oliver Plunketts GAA
St. Oliver Plunkett's is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in Cork, Ireland. The club is based in Ahiohill. It fields teams in hurling and Gaelic football competitions organized by Cork GAA and the Carbery divisional board. History The club was founded in 1974, and named after Saint Oliver Plunkett whose canonization was announced that year. This was not the first club in Ahiohill and there are records of games played by Ahiohill as early as the famine in 1840s. The underage club was known as Assumption Rovers. St Mary's GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the villages of Ballineen and Enniskean, County Cork, Ireland. Founded in 1968, the club participates in both Gaelic football and hurling competitions. The club is a member of the Carbery division of Cork GAA. In 2009, the club won its first West Cork Junior A Football Championship. The club won the same competition in 2014, along with the Junior A Football league and Junior C Football league. The club has undertaken some joint fundraising activities with the local Enniskeane camogie club. O'Donovan Rossa or Skibbereen is a Gaelic football and hurling club based in Skibbereen, County Cork, Ireland. It participates in Cork GAA competitions. Traditionally, the club has been much more successful in Gaelic football. Muintir Bháire GAA
Muintir Bháire GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Durrus, County Cork, Ireland. The club fields teams in Gaelic football only. The club take part in competitions organized by Carbery division of Cork. History There are references to a club in Durrus in 1888 playing Skibbereen. However, there was a near total failure of the potato crop in 1890 and a mood of panic gripped the area, resulting in a drop in the number of clubs from 38 to 2. In the 1930s, the playing field was in Clashadoo opposite the former schoolhouse. The only record of any trophies won was a West Cork Junior 2 title in 1932. In the 1960s, the parish were represented by a side called Western Stars, but that too collapsed due to emigration. In the 1970s, a new club was formed, and it was agreed to call Muintir Bhaire. Kilmacabea is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the villages of Leap, Glandore and Connagh in County Cork, Ireland. The club is affiliated to Cork GAA and plays in the Carbery division. Kilbrittain GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the parish of Kilbrittain, County Cork, Ireland. The club fields teams in Gaelic football and Hurling, but is primarily known for hurling. The club participates in Cork GAA competitions. The club is a member of Carbery division of Cork GAA. History Kilbrittain GAA club was founded in 1904. It has been primarily a hurling club throughout its history, though it did play in the Cork Junior Football Championship final in 1926. Hurling has always been the first sport in the parish. From the beginning, especially in the 1920s, the club had some successes in the South-West division, winning 6 titles in a row and again in 1930, 1938, 1940, 1941 and 1942.
