Caramel (Suzanne Vega Song)
"Caramel" is a song by American singer-songwriter Suzanne Vega, which was released in 1996 as the lead single from her fifth studio album ''Nine Objects of Desire'' and featured in the American romantic comedy film '' The Truth About Cats & Dogs''. The song was written by Vega and produced by Mitchell Froom. The song's music video was directed by Charles Wittenmeier. Background "Caramel" was influenced by the Bossa nova music of the 1960s, which Vega grew up listening to. In a 1997 interview for ''Power Music Network'', Vega said, "'Caramel' was intended to be one of those old fashioned songs, like "The Girl from Ipanema," or what Astrud Gilberto would sing. I used to really love that kind of music when I was a teenager." Until "Caramel", Vega had consciously avoided writing in such a style because "I didn't want the music to be corny" and "I came up in the '80s during the new wave when rhythms were all so English-influenced." Suzanne Nadine Vega ( Peck; born July 11, 1959) is an American singer-songwriter best known for her folk-inspired music. Vega's music career spans almost 40 years. She came to prominence in the mid-1980s, releasing four singles that entered the Top 40 charts in the UK during the 1980s and 1990s, including "Marlene on the Wall", " Left of Center", "Luka" and "No Cheap Thrill". "Tom's Diner", which was originally released as an '' a cappella'' recording on Vega's second album, ''Solitude Standing'' (1987), was remixed in 1990 as a dance track by English electronic duo DNA with Vega as featured artist, and it became a Top 10 hit in over five countries. Robert C. Ludwig (born c. 1945) is an American mastering engineer. He has mastered recordings on all the major recording formats for all the major record labels, and on projects by more than 1,300 artists including Led Zeppelin, Lou Reed, Queen, Jimi Hendrix, Bryan Ferry, Paul McCartney, Nirvana, Bruce Springsteen and Daft Punk resulting in over 3,000 credits. Lenny Kaye (''né'' Kusikoff; born December 27, 1946) is an American guitarist, composer, and writer who is best known as a member of the Patti Smith Group. Early life Kaye was born to Jewish parents in the Washington Heights area of upper Manhattan, New York, along the Hudson River. His father changed the family name from Kusikoff to Kaye when Lenny was 1 year old. Growing up in Queens and Brooklyn, Kaye originally began playing the accordion, but by the end of the 1950s, had dropped the instrument in favor of collecting records. Don Byron
Donald Byron (born November 8, 1958) is an American composer and multi-instrumentalist. He primarily plays clarinet but has also played bass clarinet and saxophone in a variety of genres that includes free jazz and klezmer. Biography His mother was a pianist. His father worked as a mailman and played bass in calypso bands. Byron listened to Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis while growing up, but he was exposed to other styles through trips to the ballet and symphony orchestra. When he was a child, he had asthma, and a doctor recommended playing an instrument to improve his breathing. This was why he started playing clarinet. Bruce Thomas (born 14 August 1948 in Stockton-on-Tees, England) is an English rock bass guitarist, best known as bassist for the Attractions; the band formed in 1977 to back Elvis Costello in concert and on record.
