Caramel (Blur Song)
"Caramel" is a song by Blur, the tenth track on their 1999 album '' 13''. Song "Caramel" was written by Damon Albarn in 1998. Like numerous songs from the album, it is about a relationship and Albarn's struggle to get over the breakup. It is also about his usage of heroin ("caramel" being a metaphor for heroin when smoked or "chased") and resultant addiction which he acquired during said relationship. It is rather experimental, and throughout the song, different short guitar lines from Graham Coxon feature. It has been noted as a highlight of the album by some critics. The review from BBC Music stated: "songs like '1992', 'Caramel' or ' No Distance Left to Run' dripped weary disaffection. This was a band now completely out of love with pop." Blur (band)
Blur are an English rock band formed in London in 1988. The band consists of singer Damon Albarn, guitarist Graham Coxon, bassist Alex James and drummer Dave Rowntree. Their debut album, ''Leisure'' (1991), incorporated the sounds of Madchester and shoegazing. Following a stylistic change influenced by English guitar pop groups such as the Kinks, the Beatles and XTC, Blur released ''Modern Life Is Rubbish'' (1993), ''Parklife'' (1994) and '' The Great Escape'' (1995). As a result, the band helped to popularise the Britpop genre and achieved mass popularity in the UK, aided by a chart battle with rival band Oasis in 1995 dubbed "The Battle of Britpop". Kaiser Chiefs are an English indie rock band from Leeds who formed in 2000 as Parva, releasing one studio album, ''22'', in 2003, before renaming and establishing themselves in their current name that same year. "This Is a Low" is a song by English rock band Blur for their third studio album, ''Parklife''. The song was released as a promotional single in 1995. Background and recording Originally titled "We Are the Low", the song began life as an instrumental during the ''Parklife'' sessions. In the guitar solo, Graham Coxon played three solos, including one of him sat in front of his amp, turned up to maximum volume. According to bassist Alex James, Damon Albarn was finding it hard to write lyrics. In his autobiography, ''A Bit of a Blur'', he revealed that "for Christmas I bought him a handkerchief with a map of the shipping forecast regions on it... you can never tell where the muse is going to appear." ''Blur 21'' is a CD, DVD and vinyl box set encompassing the vast majority of music by Blur. It was released on 30 July 2012, commemorating the 21st anniversary of the release of ''Leisure'', the band's first album. The release took place before the band's performance at Hyde Park as part of the 2012 Summer Olympics closing ceremony. One version of the box-set consists of eighteen CDs, three DVDs, one vinyl 7" record (of the early Seymour track "Superman") and a hardcover book acting as a complete biography of the band. The CDs contain all seven Blur albums, with the first five remastered, with each album receiving a new second disc of B-side material; as well as four 'rarities' discs containing mostly previously unreleased material. The DVDs contain '' Showtime'', ''The Singles Night'' and an all-new rarities disc. It is the band's most retrospective release. ''Parklive'' is the third live album by British rock band Blur, released on 13 August 2012. The live album recorded the band's performance at Hyde Park, London on 12 August 2012, as part of the companion concert to the 2012 Summer Olympics closing ceremony. The title is a play on their 1994 album ''Parklife''. The digital download was released onto the iTunes Store within a day of the band's performance. The CD version was released the following week, with a bonus disc of live unreleased rarities. A deluxe edition was released in December 2012, which, in addition to the three CDs in the CD edition, contains the Hyde Park performance on DVD and a CD of the band's performance at the 100 Club. ''As If'' is a British comedy-drama programme broadcast on Channel 4. There were 76 episodes across four series, the first broadcast on 22 January 2001 and the last on 31 July 2004. Premise The series focused on six young adults who lived in London. Each episode was presented from a different character's point of view, which up to that point in time had never been done before in a comedy-drama television programme. The programme had a Cult television, cult following and received critical acclaim. It was considered groundbreaking and was compared to another British serial drama ''Hollyoaks''.
