Captain Kidd, Jr.
''Captain Kidd, Jr.'' is a 1919 American silent film produced by and starring Mary Pickford and directed by William Desmond Taylor. It is her last released film for distribution by Paramount Pictures before moving to First National. The film is based on the 1916 play ''Captain Kidd Junior'' by Rida Johnson Young. Frequent Pickford collaborator Frances Marion wrote the scenario. This film exists in an incomplete print, with only two of the five reels. Plot As described in a film magazine, the grandfather of Willie Carleton (Gordon) put his will in a book about pirates and buried treasure, and the book is purchased by a second-hand store run by Angus MacTavish (Aitken), who lives with his granddaughter Mary (Pickford) and a young author named Jim Gleason (MacLean). ''Captain Kidd's Kids'' is a 1919 American short comedy film featuring Harold Lloyd. It marked the last film Bebe Daniels worked on as Lloyd's leading lady. Prints of this film exist in the film archives of the UCLA Film and Television Archive and Filmoteca Española. Plot The Boy, a wealthy young man, awakens on his wedding day with a huge hangover after a wild bachelor party. When he is sober enough to call his fiancee, The Girl tells him that her overbearing mother has learned of the previous night's party and has forbidden the marriage to take place. Instead, the mother is taking her on a cruise to the Canary Islands. The Boy and his valet quickly board a ship setting sail to that destination. The Boy falls asleep and dreams he and his valet have been thrown overboard by robbers. The two are rescued, but it is by a shipload of hostile female pirates. Winter Hall (21 June 1872 – 10 February 1947) was a New Zealand actor of the silent era who later appeared in sound films. He performed in more than 120 films between 1916 and 1938. Prior to that, he had a career as a stage actor in Australia and the United States. In sound films, he was frequently typecast as a clergyman. Biography Hall was born in Christchurch, New Zealand, and died in Los Angeles, California. Hall was married to fellow-New Zealander, Katherine Young, a concert pianist. Victor Potel (October 12, 1889 – March 8, 1947) was an American film character actor who began in the silent era and appeared in more than 430 films in his 38-year career. Career Victor Potel was born in Lafayette, Indiana in 1889, and his acting career goes back almost to the beginning of the commercial film industry in the United States. He made his first silent film in 1910, a comedy short filmed in Chicago by Essanay Film Manufacturing Company called ''A Dog on Business''. Potel continued to make films for Essanay, appearing in dozens of films every year, including most of the Broncho Billy series, and played a character called "Slippery Slim" in 80 movies.
