Captain Jack Sparrow
Captain Jack Sparrow is a fictional character and the main protagonist of the ''Pirates of the Caribbean'' film series. He later appears in the sequels ''Dead Man's Chest'' (2006), '' At World's End'' (2007), '' On Stranger Tides'' (2011), and '' Dead Men Tell No Tales'' (2017). In the films, Sparrow is one of the nine pirate lords in the Brethren Court, the Pirate Lords of the Seven Seas. Black Pearl
The ''Black Pearl'' (formerly known as the ''Wicked Wench'') is a fictional ship in the ''Pirates of the Caribbean'' film series. In the screenplay, the ''Black Pearl'' is easily recognized by her distinctive black hull and sails. Captained by Captain Jack Sparrow, she is said to be "nigh uncatchable". In the first three films she either overtakes or flees all other ships, including the ''Interceptor,'' which is regarded as the fastest ship in the Caribbean, and the ''Flying Dutchman,'' which is actually faster against the wind. Her speed is partly derived from the large amount of sails she carries, partly supernatural, and noted in ''Dead Man's Chest'' and ''At World's End'' as being "the only ship that can outrun the ''Dutchman''" as further evidenced in the maelstrom battle between the two ships. Background The ''Black Pearl'' was built by the French and was originally a merchant ship called ''Wicked Wench'' (the name of the ship from the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction ...

Dead Man's Chest
"Dead Man's Chest" (also known as "Fifteen Men on the Dead Man's Chest") is a fictional''Fictional sea-song'' - in this sense means a sea-song that first appeared in a work of fiction, and not an authentic sea song; however, this does not mean the song was not later sung in real life by real sailors. For a full treatment of the fictional origin of the song, "wholly original with Stevenson", see sea song,Many sources call "Dead Man's Chest" a sea chanty, however Stevenson himself never called it that, rather the novel says it's a "sea-song" and a "sailor's song". ''Sea-song'' is described in the ''Oxford English Dictionary'' as "A song such as is sung by sailors." (sea-song, n.; Second edition, 1989). The OED defines ''shanty'' as "A sailor's song, esp. one sung during heavy work." The OED has no entry for ''sailor's song''. Since the terms Stevenson used are oblique, it is a matter of interpretation if Stevenson meant it to be a shanty, or not. originally from Robert Louis Steve ...

Pepé Le Pew
Pepé Le Pew is an animated character from the Warner Bros. ''Looney Tunes'' and ''Merrie Melodies'' series of cartoons, introduced in 1945. Depicted as a French striped skunk, Pepé is constantly on the quest for love. However, his offensive skunk odor and his aggressive pursuit of romance typically cause other characters to run away from him. Premise Pepé Le Pew storylines typically involve Pepé in pursuit of a female black cat, whom Pepé mistakes for a skunk ("la belle femme skunk fatale"). The cat, who was retroactively named Penelope Pussycat, often has a white stripe painted down her back, usually by accident (such as by squeezing under a fence with wet white paint). Penelope frantically races to get away from him because of his putrid odor, his overly aggressive manner or both, while Pepé hops after her at a leisurely pace. Settings The setting is always a mise-en-scène echoing with fractured French. They include Paris in the springtime, the Matterhorn, or ...

Protagonist
A protagonist () is the main character of a story. The protagonist makes key decisions that affect the plot, primarily influencing the story and propelling it forward, and is often the character who faces the most significant obstacles. If a story contains a subplot, or is a narrative made up of several stories, then each subplot may have its own protagonist. The protagonist is the character whose fate is most closely followed by the reader or audience, and who is opposed by the antagonist. The antagonist provides obstacles and complications and creates conflicts that test the protagonist, revealing the strengths and weaknesses of the protagonist's character, and having the protagonist develop as a result. Etymology The term ''protagonist'' comes , combined of (, 'first') and (, 'actor, competitor'), which stems from (, 'contest') via (, 'I contend for a prize'). Character (arts)
In fiction, a character (or speaker, in poetry) is a person or other being in a narrative (such as a novel, play, radio or television series, music, film, or video game). The character may be entirely fictional or based on a real-life person, in which case the distinction of a "fictional" versus "real" character may be made. Derived from the Ancient Greek word , the English word dates from the Restoration, although it became widely used after its appearance in ''Tom Jones'' by Henry Fielding in 1749. From this, the sense of "a part played by an actor" developed.Harrison (1998, 51-2) quotation: (Before this development, the term '' dramatis personae'', naturalized in English from Latin and meaning "masks of the drama," encapsulated the notion of characters from the literal aspect of masks.) Character, particularly when enacted by an actor in the theatre or cinema, involves "the illusion of being a human person". In literature, characters guide readers through their stories, h ...
