The national flag of Cape Verde (Portuguese: ''bandeira de Cabo Verde''; Capeverdean ( ALUPEC): ''bandera di Kauberdi'') was adopted on 22 September 1992, replacing the flag adopted during Cape Verdean independence, fought for with Guinea-Bissau, another former Portuguese colony on mainland West Africa. Description The National Flag of the Republic of Cape Verde has five unequal horizontal bands of blue, white, and red, with a circle of ten yellow five-pointed stars, all pointing upwards. The topmost blue stripe is half the height of the flag. Each of the three stripes of white and red are one twelfth of the height, and the bottom blue stripe is one quarter. Therefore, the height of the stripes are in a 6:1:1:1:3 ratio. The circle of stars is centered at of the height from the bottom (which corresponds to the center of the red stripe), and of the width from the hoist side. Originally scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, the Games were postponed to 23 July to 8 August 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This was the nation's seventh appearance at the Olympics, since its debut in 1996. Competitors The following is the list of number of competitors in the Games. Cape Verde At The Paralympics
Cape Verde made its Paralympic Games début at the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens, with two competitors in track and field, and one in powerlifting. The country sent a single athlete ( Artimiza Sequeira) to the 2008 Games, to compete in the women's shot put, discus and javelin. In Rio de Janeiro 2016, sprinter Gracelino Barbosa won Cape Verde's first Paralympic medal, a bronze in the Men's 400m T20. Athletics at the 2020 Summer Paralympics were held in the National Stadium in Tokyo. There was 167 medal events: 93 for men, 73 for women and one mixed event. It was the largest contest of the Games programme regarding athlete numbers and medal events to be scheduled. The 2020 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They kept the 2020 name and were instead held from 24 August to 5 September 2021.
