Cape Girardeau ( , french: Cap-Girardeau ; colloquially referred to as "Cape") is a city in Cape Girardeau and Scott Counties in the U.S. state of Missouri. At the 2020 census, the population was 39,540. Dutchtown, Missouri
Dutchtown is a census-designated place (CDP) and former village in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri, United States, located at the intersection of Routes 25 and 74. The population was 163 at the 2020 census. It was part of the Cape Girardeau–Jackson, MO- IL Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Dutchtown had a long history of habitation. Martin Rodner, a Hessian soldier who came to America in 1776 to fight for the British during America's Revolutionary War, moved his family to the Dutchtown area in 1801, where he owned a water mill on Hubble Creek. Because his American neighbors had trouble pronouncing his name, it became "Rodney", and his mill was known as Rodney's Mill. He died in 1827. In the mid-1830s, the area near Rodney's Mill began being settled by Swiss and German families; they called their settlement Spencer. Jackson is a city in and the county seat of Cape Girardeau County, Missouri, United States. It is a principal city of the Cape Girardeau–Jackson, MO- IL Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population of Jackson was 15,481 at the 2020 census. History In 1813, Cape Girardeau County succeeded Cape Girardeau District, and the Court of Common Pleas and the Court of General Quarter-Sessions of the Peace in Cape Girardeau were superseded by the Court of Common Pleas, leading to a new seat of justice. The seat of the county and the courts were at first held on the plantation of Thomas Bull about one and one-half mile south of present-day Jackson. Land was then purchased along Hubble Creek for the county seat in 1814. The first post office was established in 1814 when the area was called Birdstown. Central High School is a public high school located in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, United States. It is in the Cape Girardeau School District. The district, and therefore the high school's attendance boundary, includes the vast majority of Cape Girardeau, as well as the majority of Dutchtown and small sections of Jackson and Scott City. Campus Central High moved from its old building (now Central Junior High School) to the newly constructed one in 2002. The campus has a variety of athletic facilities on-site, including a tennis court, a full track, along with baseball, softball, soccer, and marching band practice fields. There is a brand new 5 seat stadium that was recently added and a new performing arts building, Kinder Hall.
