Primedia Broadcasting
Primedia is a South African media group, headquartered in Sandton, Johannesburg. History Primedia was established in 1994 and its listing on the JSE Securities Exchange was completed in April 1995. Primedia remained listed on the JSE until 1 October 2007, when its listing was terminated following a successful private equity transaction (scheme of arrangements). The Primedia Group is backed by Mineworkers' Investment Company (MIC), Ethos, the FirstRand Group and the Old Mutual Group (Old Mutual Private Equity and Old Mutual Specialised Finance) who are major shareholders. Primedia's advertising businesses are located principally in South Africa. This includes radio broadcasting, outdoor advertising, commuter and other out of home media, and spans both the traditional and non-traditional media sectors. Radio 702
702 is a commercial FM radio station based in Johannesburg, South Africa, broadcasting on FM 92.7 and FM 106 to the greater Gauteng province. The station is also webcast via its website. It claims to be Johannesburg's number one news and talk station, offering news, sport, business and actuality programming and plenty of phone-in debates. The station itself was established in 1980 and was initially a young adult music station, moving to a talk format in 1988. During South Africa's apartheid era, 702 and Capital Radio 604, were the only independent sources of broadcast news. The station is owned by Primedia. Until 2006, 702 was broadcast only on 702 kHz AM. In March 2006, it won an application to move to the FM radio frequency, and the first FM broadcast took place on 24 July 2006. 947 (formerly 94.7 Highveld Stereo) is a radio station that broadcasts on the 94.7FM frequency from Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa. History The station first went on the air on 1 September 1964, as the first SABC regional FM service, ''Radio Highveld''. At that time the station broadcast hourly news bulletins and easy listening music. In September 1996 the SABC sold Radio Highveld to private enterprise. Today this station, along with a number of other radio stations in South Africa, is owned by Primedia. On 1 September 2014 the station decided to drop the logo that they have been using for over a decade. The station is also no longer known as Highveld Stereo as the name changed to being just 947. Jani Allan
Jani Allan (born 11 September 1952) is a South African journalist, columnist, writer and broadcaster. She became one of the country's first media celebrities in the 1980s and 1990s. In 1980, Allan became a columnist for the centrist newspaper, the ''Sunday Times'', South Africa's biggest-circulating weekly newspaper. She published columns such as ''Just Jani'', ''Jani Allan's Week,'' and ''Face to Face''. The newspaper commissioned a Gallup poll in 1987 to find "the most admired person in South Africa" and she came first. In 2015, Marianne Thamm of the ''Daily Maverick'' described Allan as having been "the most influential writer and columnist in the country." She later became the subject of press interest over the nature of her relationship with an interview subject, Eugène Terre'Blanche.
