Cantonment Road (Chinese: 广东民路) is a road located directly on the boundary between Bukit Merah and the Central Area PAs of Outram and the Downtown Core in Singapore. The road starts at its junction with Outram Road, Eu Tong Sen Street and New Bridge Road in the north and ends at its junction with Keppel Road in the south. It is intersected by the arterial Neil Road. Namesake roads include Cantonment Link, a one-way road which connects Keppel Road to Cantonment Road, and Cantonment Close. New Bridge Road
New Bridge Road (; ms, Jalan Jambatan Baharu) is a major one-way road located within the Central Area in Singapore. New Bridge Road starts at the Coleman Bridge to the south of the Singapore River and extends into Chinatown within the Outram Planning Area, before joining with Eu Tong Sen Street and Kampong Bahru Road within the Bukit Merah Planning Area. The road runs parallel to Eu Tong Sen Street throughout its entire length, but in the opposite direction. With the opening of the North East Line, there were plans to revert the New Bridge Road portion between Clarke Quay and Upper Cross Street into one-way street in 2003 after 11 years, but this never come to fruition. Road names in Singapore come under the purview of Street and Building Names Board of the Urban Redevelopment Authority. In 1967, the Advisory Committee on the Naming of Roads and Streets was formed to name roads in Singapore. The committee was eventually renamed the Street and Building Names Board (SBNB) in 2003. Lim Bo Seng
Lim Bo Seng (; 27 April 1909 – 29 June 1944) was a Chinese-born resistance fighter based in Singapore and Malaya during World War II. Prior to the outbreak of World War II, he was a prominent businessman among the Chinese community in Singapore. When the Sino-Japanese War broke out, he participated in anti-Japanese activities in Singapore and then at Malaya. During the Japanese occupation of the region, he was tasked by the British to establish Force 136, a guerrilla task force backed by the Special Operations Executive (SOE). However, he was captured by Japanese forces in 1944 and died while interned. He is remembered as a war hero in contemporary Singapore and is buried at the MacRitchie Reservoir Park. His grandson, Lim Teck Yin, continued his military legacy by achieving the rank of brigadier general in the Singapore Army. Mazu
Mazu or Matsu is a Chinese sea goddess also known by several other names and titles. She is the deified form of the legendary figure Lin Mo or Lin Moniang, a Fujianese shamaness whose life span is traditionally dated from 960 to 987. Neil Road
Neil Road ( Chinese: 尼路) is a one-way road in Chinatown and Tanjong Pagar in the planning areas of Outram and Bukit Merah in Singapore. The road starts at the junction of South Bridge Road, Maxwell Road and Tanjong Pagar Road and ends at Kampong Bahru Road which then merges into Jalan Bukit Merah. At the end of the road, it is a conservation area of several shophouses and a three-story Victorian style school building, which was the former site of Fairfield Methodist Girls' School.
