The Cantons of France, canton of Saint-Louis is an administrative division of the Haut-Rhin departments of France, department, northeastern France. It was created at the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. Its seat is in Saint-Louis, Haut-Rhin, Saint-Louis. Cantons Of France
The cantons of France are territorial subdivisions of the France, French Republic's Departments of France, departments and Arrondissements of France, arrondissements. Apart from their role as organizational units in relation to certain aspects of the administration of public services and justice, the chief purpose of the cantons today is to serve as Constituency, constituencies for the election of members of the representative assemblies established in each of France's territorial departments (Departmental council (France), departmental councils, formerly general councils). For this reason, such elections were known in France as "cantonal elections", until 2015 when their name was changed to "departmental elections" to match the departmental councils' name. Huningue
Huningue (; german: Hüningen; gsw-FR, Hinige) is a commune in the Haut-Rhin department of Alsace in north-eastern France. Huningue is a northern suburb of the Swiss city of Basel. It also borders Germany (Weil am Rhein, a suburb of Basel located in Germany). In 2008 it had a population of 6503 people. The main square of the town is the Place Abbatucci, named after the Corsican-born French general Jean Charles Abbatucci who unsuccessfully defended it in 1796 against the Austrians and died here. Huningue is noted for its pisciculture and is a major producer of fish eggs. History Huningue was first mentioned in a document in 826. Huningue was wrested from the Holy Roman Empire by the duke of Lauenburg in 1634 by the Treaty of Westphalia, and subsequently passed by purchase to Louis XIV. Village-Neuf (; german: Neudorf; gsw-FR, Neidorf; literally ''New Village'') is a commune in the Haut-Rhin department in Alsace in north-eastern France. Climate Village-Neuf features a continentalized oceanic climate (''Cfb'') under the Köppen climate classification due to its far inland position within France. Winters are moderately cold and quite dry with sporadic snowfall and summers are hot, humid and stormy.
