The canton of Rambouillet is an administrative division of the Yvelines department, northern France. Its borders were modified at the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. Its seat is in Rambouillet. The cantons of France are territorial subdivisions of the France, French Republic's Departments of France, departments and Arrondissements of France, arrondissements. Apart from their role as organizational units in relation to certain aspects of the administration of public services and justice, the chief purpose of the cantons today is to serve as Constituency, constituencies for the election of members of the representative assemblies established in each of France's territorial departments (Departmental council (France), departmental councils, formerly general councils). Les Essarts-le-Roi
Les Essarts-le-Roi () is a commune in the Yvelines department in the Île-de-France in north-central France. Geography Les Essarts-le-Roi is bordered by Coignières and Lévis-Saint-Nom to the northeast, Dampierre-en-Yvelines to the east, Senlisse to the southeast, Auffargis to the south, Le Perray-en-Yvelines to the southwest, Les Bréviaires to the west and Saint-Rémy-l'Honoré to the north. History An imperial decree in 1814 led to the creation of the commune of Les Essarts-le-Roi by combining the former communes of Essarts and Des Layes. In 1944, the young Paris-born boy Eddy Palacci received French Resistance radio transmissions for three Allied officers, so they could receive their instructions on when and where to sabotage French railway against Nazi occupying forces. History The name of the town comes from the Celtic word Pugneis meaning "clearing in the woods." In the twelfth century, the Order of Grandmont (Haute-Vienne) founded the priory of Notre-Dame-des-Moulineaux. In 1317, following the reorganization of the Order, it became part of Ouye (see Dourdan). In 1576, the family of Angennes Poigny who ruled, built a castle. From 1643 the site has been in disrepair. Today, you can still see the choir of the church and the remains of the wall along the D107 near the rocks Angennes. Demographics In 2017, Poigny-la-Forêt had 931 inhabitants, down from 1,014 in 2007.
