Its seat is in Beynat. It consists of a collection of communes. History A new territorial division of Corrèze entered into law in March 2015, defined by a decree of 24 February 2014, pursuant to the laws of 17 May 2013 (Organic Law 2013-402 and Law 2013-403). Apart from their role as organizational units in relation to certain aspects of the administration of public services and justice, the chief purpose of the cantons today is to serve as Constituency, constituencies for the election of members of the representative assemblies established in each of France's territorial departments (Departmental council (France), departmental councils, formerly general councils). For this reason, such elections were known in France as "cantonal elections", until 2015 when their name was changed to "departmental elections" to match the departmental councils' name. As of 2015, there were 2,054 cantons in France. Most of them group together a number of Communes of France, communes (the lowest administrative division of the French Republic), although larger communes may be included in mo ...

Meyssac
Meyssac (; oc, Maiçac) is a commune in the Corrèze department in central France. Its inhabitants are called the Meyssacois(es). Geography Meyssac is located in the extreme south of the Corrèze, 20 km from Brive-la-Gaillarde. Some of its architectural treasures are gathered around its church, as well as along its alleys lined with beautiful houses of red sandstone, with the sometimes lively facades of climbing vines. The red earth, called ''Terre de Collonges'', lends itself to pottery work. Population Toponymy The name Meyssac comes probably from the name of a Gallo-Roman landowner. Marcel Villoutreix (Les noms de lieux du Limousin, T. A. L., 2002, p. 46) gives Maniciaco in 941 from the attested name Mancius; and Mensac, Maensac around 1315. The form Maiçac corresponds to the pronunciation of the place in Occitan Limousin. Like all the communes of the historic canton of which it was the capital city, Meyssac enjoys a double display on its entrance panels. H ...
