Canton Of Gâtinais En Bourgogne
The canton of Gâtinais en Bourgogne is an administrative division of the Yonne department, central France. It was created at the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. Its seat is in Saint-Valérien. Cantons Of France
The cantons of France are territorial subdivisions of the France, French Republic's Departments of France, departments and Arrondissements of France, arrondissements. Apart from their role as organizational units in relation to certain aspects of the administration of public services and justice, the chief purpose of the cantons today is to serve as Constituency, constituencies for the election of members of the representative assemblies established in each of France's territorial departments (Departmental council (France), departmental councils, formerly general councils). For this reason, such elections were known in France as "cantonal elections", until 2015 when their name was changed to "departmental elections" to match the departmental councils' name. Vallery () is a commune in the Yonne department in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté in north-central France. History The town was acquired by Louis de Bourbon, ''prince de Condé'' - uncle of the future Henry IV of France. The town thus formed part of the extensive territories that were acquired by the Condé family over the years. Louis's son Henri de Bourbon, stayed at the Château there. The land would stay with the family until 1735 when Mademoiselle de Charolais - descendant of Louis - sold the land. The town was the traditional burial place of the Princes of Condé and their descendants.
