Canton Of Bolbec
The Canton of Bolbec is a canton situated in the Seine-Maritime département and in the Normandy region of northern France. Geography An area of farming, quarrying and light industry in the arrondissement of Le Havre, centred on the town of Bolbec. The altitude varies from 12m ( Gruchet-le-Valasse) to 154m ( Beuzevillette) for an average altitude of 118m. Bolbec
Bolbec () is a commune in the Seine-Maritime department in the Normandy region in northern France. Its inhabitants are called ''Bolbécais'' or ''Bolbécaises''. Geography A farming, quarrying and light industrial town situated at the heart of three valleys in the Pays de Caux, some northeast of Le Havre. It is the source of the river Commerce, though here it is known as the river Bolbec. The town has many small lanes (''ruelles'') with some pretty houses. History The first written record of the town dates from the end of the 11th century, as ''Bolebec''. Archeological discoveries indicate that the site has been inhabited since ancient times. The first lord of Bolbec was Osbern de Bolbec (around 992) and the last was the Duc de Charost who was executed during the French revolution. Through the Norman family of de Bolbec, the town gives its name to the village of Swaffham Bulbeck in Cambridgeshire, England. Mélamare
Mélamare () is a commune in the Seine-Maritime department in the Normandy region in northern France. Geography A farming town in the Pays de Caux, situated some east of Le Havre, near the junction of the D34 and D312 roads. History Tradition holds that Saint Honorina (Sainte-Honorine) was martyred here in 303AD. There is a chapel dedicated to her in the town. The town name was recorded as ''Mellomara'' in the thirteenth century. After the revocation of the Edict of Nantes, Protestantism survived here clandestinely.
