Canton High School is a public high school in Canton, Mississippi. It is part of the Canton Public School District. All of the student body is categorized as economically disadvantaged and almost 100 percent are African American. Tigers are the school mascot and the school colors are blue and gold. The school's football team dates to 1910. It has an 0-10 playoff record. Calvin Bolton is the team's coach. History Canton High School was preceded by Canton Female Academy. The school has also been documented as Canton Young Ladies' Academy. Canton High School started its first 10 month seasion in 1874. The school's historic building was designed by Jackson architect N. W. Overstreet and built in 1923. Damien Stephon Lewis (born March 21, 1997) is an American football guard for the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at LSU. He was drafted as the 69th overall pick in the 3rd round of the 2020 NFL Draft. George Doherty
George Edward Doherty (September 5, 1920 – December 31, 1987) was an American football player and coach and college athletics administrator. Doherty was born in Mississippi in 1920 and attended Canton High School in Canton, Mississippi. He played college football at Louisiana Tech University. During World War II, he served in the military. Doherty played professional football as a Guard and tackle in the National Football League (NFL) for the Brooklyn Tigers in 1944 and the Boston Yanks in 1945. He then jumped to the All-America Football Conference (AFFC), playing for the Buffalo Bisons and New York Yankees in 1946 and for the Buffalo Bills in 1947. He appeared in 43 professional football games, 29 of them as a starter. Doherty served as an assistant football coach at Louisiana Tech (1958–1966) and Northwestern State University (1967–1971). Marsha Dickson Barbour (born in Monroeville, Alabama) was the first lady of the U.S. state of Mississippi from 2004 to 2012. She is the wife of Mississippi's 63rd governor, Haley Barbour.
