Canton Giants
The Canton Giants was the final name of a minor league baseball team that represented Canton, Ohio between 1905 and 1915. In 1905 Canton fielded a team called the Canton Protectives which a charter member of Ohio–Pennsylvania League. On July 10, 1905, the Fort Wayne Railroaders relocated to Canton for the remainder of their season to form the Canton Red Stockings of the Central League. The team remained in the Central League for the next two seasons and were renamed the Canton Chinamen, in a name play on Canton, China. The city returned to the Ohio–Pennsylvania League Canton Watchmakers. In 1910 and 1911, the club was renamed the Canton Deubers. The team name changed once again as the club rejoined the Central League in 1912 to the Canton Statesmen. The following year the club joined the Interstate League as the Canton Senators. The Buckeye League was a Class D level minor league baseball league that played briefly in the 1915 season. The six–team Buckeye League consisted of franchises based exclusively in Ohio. The Buckeye League played just a portion 1915 season before permanently folding. The Lima Boosters were the league champions in the shortened season. Bade Myers
William Myers, nicknamed Bade (born December 21, 1872) was an American baseball player and manager. He was a prominent figure in minor league baseball for many years. He played professionally for 20 seasons and managed for over a decade as well. He was born in Bellefontaine, Ohio. Playing career A catcher and first baseman, Myers played from 1896 to 1915, spending most of his career at the B-level of minor league baseball. He spent much of his career playing for Ohio-based teams in cities like Toledo, Dayton and Columbus. His statistical record is incomplete, however it is known that he played at least 1,757 games and had at least 1,755 hits. Managing career Myers managed from 1903 to 1917, leading three teams to first-place finishes and ''de facto'' league championships. Edward J. Murphy (January 22, 1877 – January 29, 1935) was an Americans, American Major League Baseball pitcher who played from 1898 to 1903. Murphy was born in Auburn, New York on January 22, 1877. He did not attend college but played his first major league game when he was 21 years old on April 23, 1898. Coming into the league at , 186 lbs, Murphy first played for the Philadelphia Phillies and then the St. Louis Cardinals. He was a pitcher who threw left-handed and his batting hand was unknown. He died on January 29, 1935 in Weedsport, New York. Canton Terriers
The Canton Terriers was the name of a minor league baseball team from Canton, Ohio that played between 1928 and 1942. The team was formed in 1928 as a member of the Central League and played there until 1932. In 1936 a new Terriers team was formed and began play in the Middle Atlantic League, as an affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, until 1942. The team folded in 1942, when the rest of the Middle Atlantic League suspended operations due to the strains of World War II. The Terriers were not re-established when the league resumed operations after the war. During their brief history, the team won one title in the Central League and two titles in the Middle Atlantic League.
