Canoeing At The 2020 Summer Olympics – Women's K-2 500 Metres
The women's K-2 500 metres sprint canoeing event at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place on 2 and 3 August 2021 at the Sea Forest Waterway. At least 20 canoeists (10 boats of 2) from at least 9 nations competed. Background This was the 16th appearance of the event, having appeared at every Summer Games since 1960. The reigning World Champions are Maryna Litvinchuk and Volha Khudzenka of Belarus. The reigning Olympic champions are Gabriella Szabó and Danuta Kozák of Hungary. Qualification A National Olympic Committee (NOC) could qualify one place in the event, though could enter up to 2 boats if it earned enough quota places through other women's kayak events. The is a regatta venue for rowing (sport), rowing and canoeing, situated in Kōtō and Ōta, Tokyo, Ōta, Tokyo Bay, in Japan. History The venue was built for the 2020 Summer Olympics and 2020 Summer Paralympics, Paralympic Games. Construction began in 2016 and it was inaugurated in June 2019. It was built by Tokyo Metropolitan Government on the waterfront site and is the only rowing venue in Japan that meets international standards. Alicia Hoskin (born 6 February 2000) is a New Zealand flatwater canoeist. At the 2024 Summer Olympics, she won two gold medals, in the K2 500 metres and the K4 500 metres events. Early life Born and raised in Gisborne, she attended Gisborne Girls' High School where she was the Head Girl (2018). A member of the Poverty Bay Kayak Club there, she was coached by 1984 Olympic sprint canoeist Liz Thompson. She attended Massey University studying Sport Development. Teneale Hatton (born 13 January 1990 in Queenstown, Otago) is a New Zealand flatwater canoer. Hatton has two older brothers and moved from her hometown, Queenstown, to Auckland at the age of five.
