Canoeing At The 2016 Summer Olympics – Men's C-1 1000 Metres
The men's canoe sprint C-1 1000 metres at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro took place between 15 and 16 August at Lagoa Stadium. The medals were presented by Tony Estanguet, IOC member, France and István Vaskuti, First Vice President of the ICF. Competition format The competition comprised heats, semifinals, and a final round. The top boats from each heat advances to the "A" final, and the remaining boats advance to the semifinals. The top two boats in each semifinal and the next overall best boat advanced to the "A" final, and competed for medals. A placing "B" final was held for the other semifinalists. Mark Oldershaw
Mark Oldershaw (born February 7, 1983) is a Canadian sprint canoeist. Oldershaw won the bronze medal in the C-1 1000 m at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. He is a third generation Canadian Olympic canoer, fifth family member to compete at the Olympics and the first member of the family to win an Olympic medal. He was a double Junior World Champion in the C-1 500 m and C-1 1,000 m in 2001. Career Oldershaw was born in Burlington, Ontario. He first rose to prominence as a double gold-medalist at the Junior World Championships in 2001, winning both the C-1 500 m and C-1 1,000 m events. However a few years later a tumour was discovered in his right hand which was his prominent paddling hand. This required two surgeries, damaged a nerve and caused him chronic pain. Serghei Tarnovschi (born 24 June 1997) is a Moldovan-Ukrainian canoeist. He competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics, in Men's C-1 1000 m, winning a bronze medal. Career Tarnovschi represented Moldova at the 2016 Summer Olympics, where he was awarded a bronze medal at Men's C-1 1000 metres. It was subsequently stripped from him due to doping, as on 18 August 2016, he was suspended after failing doping test. On 30 November 2016, Tarnovschi's lawyer Paul J.
