Canoeing At The 2004 Summer Olympics – Men's Slalom K-1
These are the results of the men's K-1 slalom competition in canoeing at the 2004 Summer Olympics. The K-1 (kayak single) event is raced by one-man kayaks through a whitewater course. Slalom Canoeing
Canoe slalom (previously known as whitewater slalom) is a competitive sport with the aim to navigate a Spraydeck, decked canoe or kayak through a course of hanging downstream or upstream gates on Whitewater, river rapids in the fastest time possible. It is one of the two kayak and canoeing disciplines at the Summer Olympics, and is referred to by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as Canoe/Kayak Slalom. Eoin Rheinisch (born 21 February 1980 in Dublin) is an Irish slalom canoeist and three-time Olympic competitor. He competed at the international level from 1996 to 2013. He is from Leixlip, County Kildare. Olympic record Rheinisch competed at the Summer Olympic Games in 2004, 2008 and 2012. He competed in the 2004 Olympic K1 event where he finished 21st of 25 overall, exiting the competition after the heats. He came fourth in the 2008 Olympics K1 event. His performance in the Olympic Final was the best ever achievement by an Irish competitor in this event. Previously Ian Wiley finished fifth in the same event at the Atlanta Olympics. Michael "Mike" Kurt (born 2 April 1980) is a Swiss slalom canoeist who competed at the international level from 1996 to 2016. He won a gold medal in the K1 team event at the 2003 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships in Augsburg. He also won four medals at the European Championships (1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronzes). At the 2004 Summer Olympics Kurt competed in the K1 event. He won the qualification round, and progressed to the semifinals. However, at this stage, he finished 20th out of 25. At the 2008 Summer Olympics he finished seventeenth in the qualification round of the K1 event, failing to progress to the semifinals.
