Canoeing at the 2004 Summer Olympics was held at the Schinias Olympic Rowing and Canoeing Centre for the sprint events and the Olympic Canoe/Kayak Slalom Centre at the Helliniko Olympic Complex for the canoe and kayak slalom disciplines. These are the results of the men's C-1 1000 metres competition in canoeing at the 2004 Summer Olympics. The C-1 event is raced by single-man sprint canoes. Medalists Heats The 19 competitors first raced in three heats. The first-place finishers from each of the heats advanced directly to the final, and the remaining 16 canoers moved on to the two semifinal races. The heats were raced on August 23. Semifinals The top three finishers in each of the two semifinals advanced to the finals, joining the three canoers who had moved directly from the heats. All other canoers were eliminated. The semifinals were raced on August 25. Cheban was disqualified for not appearing in boat control after the race. Final The final was raced on August 27. Marián Ostrčil (born 15 October 1980 in Bratislava) is a Slovak sprint canoer who has been competing since 1998. In 1998, in Nyköping, Sweden, he became European junior champion in the individual Canadian canoe (C-1) 500m. In 2002 he won the European under-23 championship in Zagreb, Croatia in the same event. At the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships, Ostrčil won two medals with one silver (C-1 1000 m: 2007) and one bronze (C-1 5000 m: 2010). Competing in two Summer Olympics, he earned his best finish of seventh in the C-1 1000 m event at Athens in 2004. Ostrčil is 190 cm (6'3") tall and weighs 90 kg (198 lbs). Martin Doktor (; born 21 May 1974 in Polička, Czechoslovakia) is the Czech Republic's best-known sprint canoeist. He was double Olympic champion in the Canadian canoe C-1 discipline at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. During the 1996 games, his mother cooked ''knedliky'' (Dumplings in Czech), using dozens of kg of flour brought over from the Czech Republic.
