Welland Pan Am Flatwater Centre
The Welland International Flatwater Centre is a current canoeing, kayaking and rowing facility in Welland, Ontario, Canada and was used for the 2013 ICF Junior and U23 Canoe Sprint World Championships and the 2015 Pan American Games. The facility was renovated in 2013, before the U23 championships began. Renovations For the Championships and the Pan American Games, improvements to the venue included widening of the canal to bring the venue up to conditions and meet international standards, and also included the addition of buildings along the course. The facility's improvements cost about $10 million Canadian dollars. The facility has hosted many competitions in many sports among them canoeing, open water swimming and dragon boat racing. Isaquias Queiroz
Isaquias Queiroz dos Santos (born 3 January 1994) is a Brazilian sprint canoeist who has competed since 2005. He is the only Brazilian athlete to ever win three medals in a single edition of the Olympic Games, and the third most decorated Brazilian athlete with four medals overall, including a gold medal. He's been through adversity in his younger years. As a toddler, he poured boiling water on himself and spent a month in the hospital recovering. At the age of 5, he was kidnapped and offered up for adoption before being rescued by his mother, and five years later, he fell out of a tree while trying to catch a snake and lost a kidney. Mark Oldershaw
Mark Oldershaw (born February 7, 1983) is a Canadian sprint canoeist. Oldershaw won the bronze medal in the C-1 1000 m at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. He is a third generation Canadian Olympic canoer, fifth family member to compete at the Olympics and the first member of the family to win an Olympic medal. He was a double Junior World Champion in the C-1 500 m and C-1 1,000 m in 2001. Career Oldershaw was born in Burlington, Ontario. He first rose to prominence as a double gold-medalist at the Junior World Championships in 2001, winning both the C-1 500 m and C-1 1,000 m events. However a few years later a tumour was discovered in his right hand which was his prominent paddling hand. This required two surgeries, damaged a nerve and caused him chronic pain. Everardo Cristóbal
José Everardo Cristóbal Quirino (born August 11, 1986 in Urandén, Michoacán) is a Mexican sprint canoeist who has been competing since 2005. His first successful international performance was in 2006, when he won the silver medal in C-1 500 m and the gold medal in C-1 1000 m at the 2006 Central American and Caribbean Games. Later the same year, at the world championships, he surprisingly won the gold medal at C-1 1000 m, becoming the first Mexican to ever do this, and defeating race favorite and olympic medallist Andreas Dittmer, who finished second. Canoe Sprint
Canoe sprint is a water sport in which athletes race canoes or kayaks on calm water. Overview Race categories vary by the number of athletes in the boat, the length of the course, and whether the boat is a canoe or kayak. Canoe sprints are sometimes referred to as flat water racing. The distances recognized by the ICF for international canoe sprint races are 200m, 500m, and 1000m. These races take place on straight courses with each boat paddling in its own designated lane. Longer marathon races do exist, notably the 5000m (also an ICF-recognized distance) – these usually have athletes starting in a large pack at a start line before paddling around a set course with marked turning points (there are no assigned lanes).
