Canoe Slalom World Cup
The ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup is an annual series of races in canoe slalom held under the auspices of the International Canoe Federation. It has been held since 1988 in four canoe and kayak disciplines for men and women. The four original disciplines were men's single canoe (C1), men's double canoe (C2), men's kayak (K1) and women's kayak. A women's single canoe discipline (C1) has been added to the world cup in 2010. The men's C2 event was removed from the world cup series in 2018 and it was replaced by the mixed C2 event. 2018 was also the first time that world cup points were awarded for the extreme K1 event. Competition format The world cup is a series of individual races usually taking place during the summer months of June, July and August. The athlete (or boat) that accumulates the highest number of points from all world cup races in the given discipline becomes the overall world cup champion. The 1993 Canoe Slalom World Cup was a series of five races in 4 canoeing and kayaking categories organized by the International Canoe Federation (ICF). It was the 6th edition. The series consisted of 4 regular world cup races and the world cup final. Calendar Final standings The winner of each world cup race was awarded 25 points. The points scale reached down to 1 point for 15th place. Only the best two results of each athlete from the first 4 world cups plus the result from the world cup final counted for the final world cup standings. Furthermore, an athlete or boat had to compete in the world cup final and two other world cup races in order to be classified in the world cup rankings. If two or more athletes or boats were equal on points, the ranking was determined by their positions in the world cup final. Roman Vajs (born 18 November 1974 in Liptovský Mikuláš) is a Slovak slalom canoeist who competed at the international level from 1990 to 2004. Vajs won two medals in the C2 team event at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships with a silver in 1999 and a bronze in 1993. He won the overall World Cup title in the C2 class in 1998. He also won 3 medals at the European Championships (1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze). Vajs finished 13th in the C2 event at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. His partner in the C2 boat until 2000 was Roman Štrba Roman Štrba was born on March 8,1974 in Liptovský Mikuláš. Roman Štrba was born on March 8,1974 in Liptovský Mikuláš. He is a Slovak slalom canoeist who competed at the international level from 1990 to 2000. Štrba won two medals in the C2 team event at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships with a silver in 1999 and a bronze in 1993. He won the overall World Cup title in the C2 class in 1998, he also won 2 medals at the European Championships (1 silver and 1 bronze). Michal Martikán
Michal Martikán (; born 18 May 1979) is a Slovak slalom canoeist who has been competing at the international level since 1994. In 1996 he became the first athlete to win an Olympic gold medal for Slovakia since the country gained independence in 1993. In total he won 5 Olympic medals (2 golds, 2 silvers and 1 bronze), which is the most among all slalom paddlers. He has also won the World Championship title in the C1 individual category four times. Career At the age of 16, Michal Martikán became the youngest winner of a World Cup slalom canoeing event. Three months later, at age 17, Martikán was in sixth place after the first run of the canoe slalom singles event at the 1996 Olympics. Sandra Forgues (born 22 December 1969, in Tarbes), formerly known as Wilfrid Forgues, is a French slalom canoeist who competed as a male athlete from the late 1980s to the early 2000s (decade). In 2018, Forgues revealed publicly her identity as a trans woman. Competing in three Summer Olympics, she won two medals in the C2 event with a gold in 1996 and a bronze in 1992. Forgues also won four medals in the C2 event at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships with two golds (1991, 1997), a silver (1995), and a bronze (1993). Patrice Estanguet (born 19 April 1973 in Pau) is a French slalom canoeist who competed at the international level from 1990 to 2004. He is the older brother of triple Olympic champion Tony Estanguet.
