Caney, Kansas
Caney is a city in Montgomery County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 1,788. History Caney was founded in 1869. It was named from the Caney River. The first post office in Caney was established in May 1870. In 1887, the railroad was built through Caney, and in that same year, the town was incorporated. Caney has long been associated with the petroleum industry in Kansas. In 1906, a major gas well fire took place in this area. In 1909, Caney became the site of the original Kanotex Refining Company. Currently, CVR Energy's pipeline system can transport up to 145,000 barrels/day of crude oil from Caney to that company's refinery in Coffeyville, Kansas. Pippa Passes, Kentucky
Pippa Passes is a home rule-class city located along Caney Fork in Knott County, eastern Kentucky, United States. Its formal name was chosen to honor benefactors of Alice Lloyd College. Residents commonly call the community "Caney" or "Caney Creek". The population was 533 at the 2010 census, up from 297 at the 2000 census. The small city is located in the mountainous Appalachia region, an area of coal mining. History This settlement was known as "Caney" or "Caney Creek" before 1916, when Alice Lloyd arrived from Boston, Massachusetts. She solicited funds for the construction of a local post office and the founding of Caney Creek Junior College, which were opened in 1917 and 1923, respectively. A donation from the Browning Society led to the post office's being named after Robert Browning's ''Pippa Passes.'' Caney is a town in Atoka County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 205 at the 2010 census. History A post office was established at Caney Switch, Indian Territory for a short time in 1879. The post office took its name from nearby Caney Creek, and referred to the cane brakes along the course of the waterway. The post office was reestablished one mile south as Caney, Indian Territory on June 20, 1888, taking its name from the former post office at Caney Switch. The communities were both station stops on the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad. At the time of their founding, the communities were located in Atoka County, Choctaw Nation, a part of the Pushmataha District.Morris, John W. Caney is a census-designated place (CDP) in Cherokee County, Oklahoma, United States, within the Cherokee Nation. It was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census. It includes the unincorporated community of Tailholt. The CDP is in eastern Cherokee County, bordered to the south by Tenkiller, to the west by Etta, to the north by Welling, and to the east by Adair County. By road, it is southeast of Tahlequah, the county seat.
