Cane Hill Road Bridge
The Cane Hill Road Bridge (also Little Red River Bridge) was a closed-spandrel arch bridge built in 1923 located near Prairie Grove, Arkansas. It carried Arkansas Highway 170 over the Little Red River,"Cane Hill Road Bridge.Bridge Profile.Retrieved April 5, 2010. and was in 2014 in the process of being bypassed. The bridge has a single span about in length, with an overall bridge length of . The bridge is wide. AR 170 was the major north–south route in the area when the bridge was built, but this section has since been bypassed by the construction of United States Route 62. The bridge was built by the Luten Bridge Company of Knoxville, Tennessee. The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010. The bridge was replaced by a box culvert. Little Red River (Arkansas)
The Little Red River is a river in White, Van Buren, Searcy, Stone and Cleburne counties of north-central Arkansas. History During the American Civil War, the Battle of Whitney's Lane took place near Searcy on the banks of the Little Red River. Location The upper tributaries of the Little Red River are known as the South Fork, the Middle Fork, and the Devils Fork. Prior to the impoundment of Greers Ferry Lake the three tributaries converged just east of Sugar Loaf Mountain. The South Fork begins in the Ozark National Forest near Scotland in Van Buren County and flows into Greers Ferry Lake near Clinton. The Middle Fork begins only a few miles from the South Fork near Tilly in Van Buren County but flows northward into Searcy County. In Searcy County the river turns east and flows into Stone County where it turns south and flows to meet Greers Ferry Lake in Cleburne County. Prairie Grove, Arkansas
Prairie Grove is a city in Washington County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 4,380 at the 2010 Census. It is part of the Northwest Arkansas region, and home to Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park. History Prairie Grove was the site of the Battle of Prairie Grove during the American Civil War. Confederate forces under General Thomas C. Hindman attempted to prevent the juncture of two Federal forces under Generals James G. Blunt and Francis J. Herron. The result of the battle was a tactical stalemate which assured permanent Union control of northwest Arkansas. The battlefield is now a State Military Park.
