Candy Toxton (November 12, 1925 – December 28, 2005) was an American actress, died age 80. Early life She was born Florence Tockstein on November 12, 1925 in Vienna, Missouri, the eldest of six children of Edward and Teresa Tockstein. Personal life She was married to the jazz singer Mel Tormé from February 1949 until their divorce in 1955. They had two children, including the entertainer Steve March-Tormé. Toxton later married the comedian and actor Hal March. Melvin Howard Tormé (September 13, 1925 – June 5, 1999), nicknamed "The Velvet Fog", was an American musician, singer, composer, arranger, drummer, actor, and author. He composed the music for "The Christmas Song" ("Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire") and co-wrote the lyrics with Bob Wells. Early life Melvin Howard Tormé was born in Chicago, Illinois, to William David Torme, a Jewish immigrant from Poland, and Betty Torme (née Sopkin), a New York City native. He graduated from Hyde Park High School. A child prodigy, he first performed professionally at age four with the Coon-Sanders Orchestra, singing "You're Driving Me Crazy" at Chicago's Blackhawk restaurant. They divorced and Toxton married actor/comedian Hal March who became Steve's stepfather. Hal March (born Harold Mendelson; April 22, 1920 – January 19, 1970) was an American comedian, actor, and television quiz show Master of ceremonies, emcee. Early career March entered show business as a straight man in the vaudeville act the Hollywood Rioteers, before serving in the U.S. Army beginning in 1941. He began his career in broadcasting as an announcer at Station KYA in San Francisco.
