Candy (Ash Song)
"Candy" is a song by Ash, released as the fourth single from their album ''Free All Angels'' on 1 October 2001. It was released as a single CD (released on 2CD formats, the first of which being an enhanced CD) as a 7-inch vinyl (which was limited edition and came with a numbered picture gatefold sleeve), as well as on DVD format. Candy performed only slightly better than previous single "Sometimes", reaching number 20 on the UK Singles Chart and number 25 in Ireland. "Candy" sees Ash experiment with new territory in an emotion filled track. It samples The Walker Brothers track "Make It Easy On Yourself". Wheeler has said about the sample: "It's on a song called 'Candy' that we rewrote about four times 'Cos we couldn't get it right. We tried some samples and that fitted perfectly. It lifted the song up and we danced around the studio for two days seriously drunk". The sample on "Candy" is one of the reasons "Free All Angels" was delayed, due to legal issues. Ash (band)
Ash are a Northern Irish rock band formed in Downpatrick in 1992 by vocalist and guitarist Tim Wheeler, bassist Mark Hamilton and drummer Rick McMurray. As a three-piece, they released mini-album '' Trailer'' in 1994 and full-length album '' 1977'' in 1996. This 1996 release was named by ''NME'' as one of the 500 greatest albums of all time. After the success of their full debut the band recruited Charlotte Hatherley as a guitarist and vocalist, releasing their second record ''Nu-Clear Sounds'' in 1998. After narrowly avoiding bankruptcy, the band released ''Free All Angels'' in 2001 and a string of successful singles. The band became a three-piece again in 2006 when Hatherley left, and after five conventional albums the band released 26 singles in the ''A-Z Series'' in 2009, one every two weeks. "Burn Baby Burn" is a song by Ash (band), Ash, released as the second single from the ''Free All Angels'' album on 2 April 2001, reaching number 13 on the UK Singles Chart and number 20 in Ireland. It was released as a single CD (released on 2CD formats, the second of which being an enhanced CD) and as a 7" vinyl, and was also released for the first time on DVD format. The song can also be found on the ''Intergalactic Sonic 7″s'' hits collection. Background and release "Burn Baby Burn" was originally written for "Nu-Clear Sounds" but did not make the cut. However, Mark Hamilton liked the riff, and encouraged Wheeler to re-write parts of the song, namely the chorus. Wheeler came up with the chorus while driving back to his parents' house from Belfast, and wrote it down when he got home. He said a personal breakup inspired the song. "Jesus Says" is a song by Ash, released as the first single from their album '' Nu-Clear Sounds'' on 21 September 1998, reaching number 15 in the UK singles chart. It was released as a single CD, a 7" vinyl, and as a cassette. "Jesus Says", despite its considerably low chart placing was Ash's highest ever selling single until " Shining Light" in 2001. The 7" version came with a picture sleeve and the UK promo version came in a custom rice paper picture wallet. "Jesus Says" introduced the world to Ash's second full-length album, and left some fans baffled by its more raw sound.
