2006 South Australian State Election
The state election for the 51st Parliament of South Australia was held in the Australian state of South Australia on 18 March 2006 to elect all members of the South Australian House of Assembly and 11 members of the South Australian Legislative Council. The election was conducted by the independent State Electoral Office. In the 47-seat South Australian House of Assembly, the Labor government was returned in a landslide with 28 seats from a 56.8 percent two-party-preferred vote, winning six seats from the Liberal Party. The Liberals were reduced to just 15 seats, the worst result in their history. Australian Greens SA is a green political party located in the Australian state of South Australia. It is a member of the federation of the Australian Greens party. The party has four members in the federal and state parliaments: Sarah Hanson-Young and Barbara Pocock in the Senate; and Tammy Franks and Robert Simms in the South Australian Legislative Council. Angus John Redford (born 16 September 1956) is a former South Australian politician. He was a Liberal Party member of the South Australian Legislative Council between 1993 and 2006. Wayne Matthew, sitting member for Bright, retired at the 2006 state election. Redford won preselection over party vice-president Dean Hersey. Redford lost with a 34.4% first preference vote, with Labor candidate Chloë Fox winning from a 50.2% first preference vote and a 59.4% two-party vote from a 14.4% two-party swing. Chloë Catienne Fox (born 22 February 1971) is an Australian politician who represented the South Australian House of Assembly seat of Bright from 2006 to 2014 for the Labor Party. Personal life Fox is the daughter of Australian children's author, Mem Fox and teacher Malcolm Fox. Fox attended Blackwood High School in Adelaide's south and attended the University of Adelaide and the City University, London. She was engaged to fellow politician Leon Bignell from March 2006 to March 2007 until the wedding was called off. In late 2009 Fox announced she was pregnant, with the birth due in March 2010, around the time of the 2010 state election. Vickie Chapman
Vickie Ann Chapman is a former Australian politician, representing the South Australian House of Assembly seat of Bragg for the South Australian Division of the Liberal Party of Australia between the 2002 election and May 2022. Chapman served as the Deputy Premier of South Australia and Attorney-General between 19 March 2018 and 22 November 2021 in the Marshall government. She was the first woman to hold either post. Chapman has previously served as deputy leader of the Liberal Party from 2006 to 2009, and became deputy leader again in 2013. In that capacity, she served as Deputy Leader of the Opposition between 30 March 2006 and 4 July 2009, and again between 4 February 2013 and 19 March 2018. Bragg is a single-member electoral district for the South Australian House of Assembly. The seat is named after the eminent physicists Bragg – William Henry and his son, William Lawrence. The electorate is largely suburban and encompasses a significant portion of the City of Burnside, stretching from the east parklands of Adelaide into the Adelaide Hills. Pauline Hanson's One Nation (PHON or ONP), also known as One Nation or One Nation Party, is a right-wing populist political party in Australia. It is led by Pauline Hanson. One Nation had electoral success in the late 1990s, before suffering an extended decline after 2001. Dignity Party previously known as Dignity for Disability or Dignity 4 Disability or D4D (known as Dignity for Disabled until 2010) is a political party in the Australian state of South Australia. The party had one parliamentary member, Kelly Vincent, elected at the 2010 state election to the eleventh and last seat for an eight-year term in the 22-member Legislative Council in the Parliament of South Australia. She was not re-elected in the 2018 state election.
