1992 Queensland State Election
Elections were held in the Australian state of Queensland on 19 September 1992 to elect the 89 members of the state's Legislative Assembly. The Labor Party led by Wayne Goss was reelected for a second term with a strong majority government. The election effectively confirmed the status quo, although the ALP lost a small percentage of votes and four seats. Three of those were new seats which were nominally Labor following the redistribution. This was the first election in many decades in which a zonal system of electoral representation did not exist. The previous parliament had legislated for a " one vote one value" electoral redistribution, in which almost all the 89 electoral districts were to have similar numbers of electors (within a 10% margin of the mean). The only exceptions were electorates that had areas of at least 100,000 square kilometres. Clive Berghofer
Clive John Berghofer (born 4 March 1935) is an Australian property developer, politician and philanthropist. He was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly, Alderman and Mayor of Toowoomba. Electoral District Of Auburn (Queensland)
Auburn was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland from 1972 to 1992. First created for the 1972 state election, it largely replaced the abolished district of Mackenzie. Based in the west Burnett region, it was always a National Party seat. Auburn was abolished ahead of 1992 state election, largely absorbed into the pre-existing district of Callide, with parts also going to the new district of Fitzroy. Neville Harper
Neville John Harper (born 10 September 1926) is an Australian former politician. Life and career Harper was born in Brisbane on 10 September 1926, to Neville Barclay Harper and Hazel Jane, ''née'' Gardner. He attended New Farm and Nundah State Schools and then Brisbane Grammar School (1940–44) before becoming a grazier, farmer and real estate valuer. On 12 November 1949 he married Marjorie Pointon, with whom he had two daughters. From 1945 to 1947 he served in the Royal Australian Navy as a sub-lieutenant aboard HMAS ''Hawkesbury'' before returning to manage cattle properties in Barmundu and Kingaroy. In 1952 he was appointed manager of Mactaggarts station in Cunnamulla. Harper was a member of the National Party, and served as chairman of the Wandoan branch. Somerset was an Queensland Legislative Assembly electoral districts, electoral district of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland, Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland from 1950 to 1992. Its area was mostly inherited from the abolished district of Electoral district of Stanley (Queensland), Stanley, located in the upper Brisbane River valley. It was named after Lake Somerset. Bill Gunn (Queensland Politician, Born 1920)
William Angus Manson Gunn AM (22 June 1920 – 20 September 2001) was an Australian politician who represented the Queensland Legislative Assembly seat of Somerset from 1972 until 1992. A member of the National Party, he also served as a Minister and Deputy Premier in various Queensland administrations during the 1980s, and was instrumental in establishing the Fitzgerald Inquiry. Nev Warburton
Neville George Warburton (23 February 1932 – 5 August 2018) was an Australian politician from Queensland, who served as leader of the opposition from 1984 to 1988, and as a minister in the Goss Ministry from 1989 to 1992. Career Early career Warburton was elected at the 1977 election as the Labor Party candidate for the seat of Sandgate, succeeding Harold Dean who had held the seat for the ALP since 1960. In 1982, following a string of poor election results under Ed Casey, a leadership contest lead to fellow opposition frontbencher Keith Wright defeating Casey in a secret ballot. Warburton was appointed deputy opposition leader in Wright's shadow cabinet, despite having served only five years in parliament. William George Prest (2 April 1926 – 8 December 2012) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly for the Labor Party from 1976 until 1992, former Gladstone Harbour Board member and once Gladstone City Council mayor. Early life Prest was born in Longreach, Queensland. In 1970, he stood for local council elections and was elected, he later became Gladstone's deputy mayor in 1975. Political career After being elected he served as Shadow Minister Tourism, Marine Services and Fisheries until December 1977, then Shadow Minister for Main Roads, Shadow Minister for Local Government and Valuation and Shadow Minister for Transport.
