The 1922 Tasmanian state election was held on 10 June 1922. Since the last election, the Country Party had formed and counted a number of Nationalist MHAs among its members. 1922 Tasmanian State Election
The 1922 Tasmanian state election was held on 10 June 1922 in the Australian state of Tasmania to elect 30 members of the Tasmanian House of Assembly. The election used the Hare-Clark proportional representation system — six members were elected from each of five electorates. The incumbent Premier of Tasmania was Walter Lee of the Nationalist Party. The Labor Party was led by Joseph Lyons. Before the election, a new party had emerged, the Country Party, a conservative party aiming to represent farmers and rural interests. In Tasmania, the new party was led by Ernest Blyth. At the election, the Nationalist Party lost four seats and Labor lost one seat. The Country Party won 5 seats and the balance of power. Percy Pollard
Percival George Pollard (16 June 1883 – 19 May 1948) was an Australian politician. He was born in Angaston, South Australia, Angaston in South Australia. Frank Marriott
Francis Marriott (11 July 1874 – 9 February 1957) was an English-born Australian politician. He was born in London. He lost his sight fighting in World War I. In 1922, having moved to Australia, he was elected to the Tasmanian House of Assembly as a Nationalist member for Darwin. His wife Alice would read bills aloud to him, although he had learned braille. He was Chair of Committees from 1922 to 1925. In 1941 he moved to the seat of Bass, which he represented until he retired in 1946. He was succeeded by his third son, Fred. His fourth and youngest son John was a Senator for Tasmania. James Ogden
James Ernest Ogden (8 March 1868 – 5 February 1932) was an Australian politician who was elected to the Tasmanian House of Assembly and the Australian Senate. Early life Ogden was born at Durdidwarrah, near Geelong, Victoria and educated at Steiglitz State School until he was 14 and then worked at a variety of jobs in different parts of Australia. From 1896 until 1906 he was a prospector and miner on the west-coast of Tasmania. He married Emma Etta Colls in 1897. He was later president of the Tasmanian branch of the Amalgamated Miners' Association. State politics Ogden was elected to the Tasmanian House of Assembly seat of Zeehan for the Labor Party at the 1906 election. Joshua Thomas Hoskins Whitsitt (26 September 1869 – 14 September 1943) was an Australian politician. He was a member of the Tasmanian House of Assembly from 1909 to 1922 and a member of the Australian House of Representatives from 1922 to 1925. Early life and business career Whitsitt was born in County Fermanagh and attended college in Belfast. He visited Tasmania at the age of eighteen, intending to return to Ireland, but instead remained in Australia.
