Edward Henry Lloyd
Edward Henry Lloyd (1825 – 21 December 1889) was an English-born Australian politician. He was born at Acton Round in Shropshire to army officer John Lloyd and Mary Evans. Around 1849 he migrated to New South Wales, purchasing land on the Liverpool Plains in partnership with his brothers. Around 1855 he married Elizabeth Johnstone, with whom he had four children. In 1858 he was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for Liverpool Plains and Gwydir, but he retired in 1859. In 1863 he was appointed to the New South Wales Legislative Council, serving until 1865. Electoral District Of New England And Macleay
New England and Macleay was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales from 1856 to 1859, in the Northern Tablelands region of New England and part of the Mid North Coast region, including the area to the north of the Macleay River. but excluding the area south of the Macleay River which was included in the Counties of Gloucester and Macquarie. To the north was the electorate of Clarence and Darling Downs and to the west the electorate of Liverpool Plains and Gwydir. William Tydd Taylor
William Tydd Taylor (1814 – 1 December 1862) was a Scottish-born Australian politician. He was the son of gentleman John Taylor and Harriet Bunbury, and migrated to New South Wales around 1840. Around 1839 he had married Margaretta Lucy Lind, with whom he had ten children. He worked as a carrier between the North Coast and Northern Tablelands, subsequently acquiring the "Terrible Vale" property near Armidale. In 1858 he was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly The New South Wales Legislative Assembly is the lower of the two houses of the Parliament of New South Wales, an Australian state. Cumberland (North Riding) was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales from 1856 to 1859, in Cumberland County, which includes Sydney. It included all of the county north of Parramatta Road and the Great Western Highway, except for the urban electorates of Sydney (City), Sydney Hamlets, Parramatta and Cumberland Boroughs, which included Richmond and Windsor. Thomas Whistler Smith
Thomas Whistler Smith, (26 September 1824 – 11 December 1859) was an Australian businessman, banker and politician. He was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1857 until his early death in 1859 at the age of 35. He was the deputy chairman and managing director of the Commercial Banking Company of Sydney (now National Australia Bank), having been made one of its directors in 1850. His sister Henrietta Octavia Lamb (née Smith) married into the Lamb banking family by wedding John de Villiers Lamb, a fellow director of the CBCS. John was the son of Commander John Lamb, who was also a Commercial Banking Company of Sydney director, as were his brothers Walter Lamb, Edward Lamb and Alfred Lamb. John Paterson (Australian Politician)
John Paterson (8 December 1831 – 9 August 1871) was a Scottish-born Australian politician in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly. Early life Paterson was born in Clydevale, Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire in 1831. He took his name from his father, Captain John Paterson, a soldier. His mother was Ann Howison. Paterson arrived in New South Wales in 1850. He was a pastoralist and was a partner in several runs. Politics James Garland had served alongside William Macleay in the two member constituency of Lachlan and Lower Darling in the first New South Wales parliament from 1856 to 1858. At the 1858 election Garland did not recontest. Nominations for the seat of Lachlan and Lower Darling closed on 25 January 1858. John Marks (Australian Politician)
John Marks (24 November 1827 – 3 March 1885) was an Australian farmer and politician. He was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council between 1878 and 1885. He was also a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for two terms from 1856 until 1859. Early life Marks was the son of an Irish farmer who emigrated, with his family, to the Illawarra district when Marks was a few months old. After an elementary education in Sydney he became a successful farmer in Jamberoo near Kiama. By 1860, Marks had acquired substantial property in Sydney and had become independently wealthy. He was an alderman on Kiama Municipal Council between 1868 and 1874 and was the Mayor in 1870. Marks was also involved in numerous local organisations including the Presbyterian Church, Aboriginal Protection Board and Agricultural Society. Murrumbidgee is a former electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales, named after the Murrumbidgee River. History Until its abolition, Murrumbidgee and Parramatta were the only electorates to have existed continuously since the first Legislative Assembly election in 1856, although before 1913 it was called ''The Murrumbidgee''. It elected two members between 1856 and 1859, one member between 1859 and 1880, two members between 1880 and 1885, three members between 1885 and 1894 and one member between 1894 and 1920. George Macleay
Sir George Macleay (180924 June 1891) was an Australian explorer and politician. Biography Macleay was born in London, the third son of Alexander Macleay and educated at Westminster School. He came to Australia in 1826. In November 1829 he accompanied Charles Sturt on his second expedition to the mouth of the Murray River and back. Early in April 1830, after difficulties on the expedition and the whole party was practically exhausted, Sturt recorded that ''"amidst these distresses Macleay preserved his good humour and did his utmost to lighten the toil and to cheer the men"''. Macleay and Sturt remained good friends and corresponded regularly until Sturt's death in 1869. Macleay then lived on and farmed the Brownlow estate, near Camden, and also established a property at Fish River, between Goulburn and Yass from 1831 to 1859.
