Canberra United FC
Canberra United Football Club is an Australian professional soccer club based in the southern Canberra suburb of Wanniassa, Australian Capital Territory. Founded in 2008 by Capital Football, the club was an inaugural member of the W-League and the only club not affiliated with an A-League Men team. Canberra United currently competes in the A-League Women, A-League Youth and NPLW leagues. Canberra's home stadium is McKellar Park and the club is two time champions and three time premiers of the W-League. W-League History 2008–09 Season The first announcement of the club came in July 2008, coinciding with the establishment of the new W-League. McKellar Park (Canberra)
McKellar Park, formerly known as Belconnen Soccer Centre and McKellar Soccer Centre, is an association football stadium in the Canberra suburb of McKellar, in Australia. The playing surface is rectangular in shape and is used almost exclusively for association football matches. The venue is the home ground of National Premier Leagues Capital Football club Belconnen United FC and W-League club Canberra United FC. Stadium Facilities The main grandstand is named after Ken Carter, who has been involved in the Belconnen Soccer Club since its formation and contributed significantly to the club's development. Grace Gill-McGrath (born 27 June 1989) is a retired Australian soccer player, who played for Canberra United in the Australian W-League and for Slovácko in the Czech Women's First League. Gill now works as a pundit & expert commentator in broadcast coverage of the A-League Women. Gill has also begun her professional transition to main commentary (play-by-play) by calling the Western United vs Brisbane Roar Women's A-League match for Paramount+ (Australia) on 21 January 2023. Kardinia Park
Kardinia Park is a major public park located in South Geelong, Victoria. A number of public and sporting facilities are located in the park: a major AFL stadium, a secondary football oval, a cricket field, an open air swimming pool, a number of netball courts, various sporting clubrooms, and a senior citizens centre. The park is bounded by Moorabool Street, the Geelong railway line, Kilgour Street, Latrobe Terrace, and Park Crescent. Ashleigh Sykes
Ashleigh Sykes (born 15 December 1991) is an Australian international football player, who plays for Canberra United FC in the W-League (Australia) and has previously played for Portland Thorns FC in the National Women's Soccer League. Early life Sykes grew up in Dubbo, New South Wales. She played for Dubbo SASS, and was also CSSA Athletics champion in 2006. She has a twin, Nicole, who is also a footballer. Playing career Club Sykes joined Canberra United along with her sister Nicole in the W-League whilst still finishing school for the league's inaugural season in 2008–09. She made her debut in Canberra's first match, coming on for Grace Gill in a loss to Newcastle Jets. Michelle Heyman
Michelle Pearl Heyman (born 4 July 1988) is an Australian soccer player and commentator who currently plays for Canberra United in the W-League in Australia. She became the all-time record goalscorer in the W-League in March 2021, after scoring her 73rd goal. She has previously played for W-League teams Central Coast Mariners, Sydney FC, and Adelaide United as well as the Western New York Flash in the American National Women's Soccer League. Heyman has represented Australia since 2010, playing at the 2014 AFC Women's Asian Cup, the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympics. Viking Park
Viking Park is an 7,000 capacity (1,000 seated) multi-sport stadium located in the Tuggeranong Valley suburb Wanniassa, Canberra, Australia. It has a rectangular playing surface which is used primarily to host rugby union matches but additionally has hosted rugby league, Association football and baseball. It is home to the Tuggeranong Vikings and all matches of the ACTRU Premier Division finals, the Canberra Vikings who compete in the National Rugby Championship and the Tuggeranong Vikings Baseball Club.
