Canadian Pacific 2-8-0 N-2-a, B, And C
Canadian Pacific Railway N-2-a, b, and c class locomotives were a class of 199 2-8-0 or Consolidation type locomotives built by Montreal Locomotive Works in 1912–1914. They were numbered 3600–3799 by CP and were used almost everywhere around the system. Construction history The order for these engines came around 1912 when CP wanted bigger locomotives for their mainline. Their current engines were wearing out and were too small for the loads that were being hauled. The Montreal Locomotive Works was the one who did the job. Modifications These locomotives were originally numbered 3800–3999. They were renumbered between 1920 and 1929 renumbered to the 3600 and 3700s. Most of the class were converted to oil-firing in the later years. In the 1920s onward Canadian Pacific saw an increasing need for larger locomotives. Montreal Locomotive Works
Montreal Locomotive Works (MLW) was a Canadian railway locomotive manufacturer which existed under several names from 1883 to 1985, producing both steam and diesel locomotives. For a number of years it was a subsidiary of the American Locomotive Company. MLW's headquarters and manufacturing facilities were located in Montreal, Quebec. Early history The Locomotive and Machine Company of Montreal Limited was created in 1883, producing primarily for the growing domestic market—notably the Canadian Pacific Railway, the Grand Trunk Railway, the Intercolonial Railway and, after 1922, the Canadian National Railway. Purchase by Alco In 1901, the American Locomotive Company (Alco) headquartered in Schenectady, New York, was formed by the merger of several struggling locomotive manufacturers. Kettle Valley Steam Railway
The Kettle Valley Steam Railway is a heritage railway near Summerland, British Columbia. The KVSR operates excursion trains over the only remaining section of the Kettle Valley Railway. This section runs from Faulder to Trout Creek, running through West Summerland and the Prairie Valley railway station. The line runs through vistas, orchards, vineyards, and over the Trout Creek Trestle. Trains are operated from spring through fall each year and include special events such as the "Great Train Robbery" and "Christmas Express". Trains are pulled by ex-Canadian Pacific 2-8-0 steam locomotive 3716 ( N-2-b class), built in 1912. Bienfait
Bienfait is a town in Saskatchewan on Highway 18 that is 14 km (9 miles) east of Estevan. It is 30 km northwest of the town of North Portal, which is next to the Canadian-American border and is also 10 km south of Estevan. It is surrounded by the RM of Coalfields. For services, Bienfait has one school and a gas station. There is also a curling rink and an ice rink, which is where the Bienfait Coalers of the Big 6 Hockey League play. The Coalers have won the Lincoln Trophy 15 times, which is the most of any team. The Bienfait Museum is in the old CPR Station on the east end of town. The original location for the station was on the CPR line on the north side of town. History Bienfait was incorporated as the Village of Bienfait on April 16, 1912. Royal Hudson
The Royal Hudsons are a series of semi-streamlined 4-6-4 "Hudson" type steam locomotives owned by the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) and built by Montreal Locomotive Works (MLW). The engines were built in 1937. In 1939, King George VI allowed the CPR to use the term after Royal Hudson number 2850 transported the royal train across Canada with no need of replacement. These locomotives were in service between 1937 and 1960. Four of them have been preserved. No. 2839 was used to power excursions for the Southern Railway Steam Program between 1979 and 1980. No. 2860 was used for excursion service in British Columbia between 1974 and 1999, then again between 2006 and 2010.
