Canadian National Class E-7 2-6-0
Canadian National Railway (CN) Class E-7 steam locomotives were of 2-6-0 wheel arrangement in the Whyte notation, or 1′C in UIC classification. These locomotives were built for the Grand Trunk Railway (GT) from 1898 through 1908. Some of the class had been built as compound locomotives with boilers feeding and cylinders; but all save one had been rebuilt as simple single-expansion locomotives beginning in 1911. GT began adding superheaters to these locomotives in 1913. CN simplified the last compound and continued the superheating conversions, but some locomotives never received superheaters. Under the Whyte notation for the classification of steam locomotives, represents the wheel arrangement of two leading wheels on one axle, usually in a leading truck, six powered and coupled driving wheels on three axles and no trailing wheels. This arrangement is commonly called a Mogul. Overview In the United States and Europe, the wheel arrangement was principally used on tender locomotives. This type of locomotive was widely built in the United States from the early 1860s to the 1920s. Although examples were built as early as 1852–53 by two Philadelphia manufacturers, Baldwin Locomotive Works and Norris Locomotive Works, these first examples had their leading axles mounted directly and rigidly on the frame of the locomotive rather than on a separate truck or bogie. Dickson Manufacturing Company
Dickson Manufacturing Company was an American manufacturer of boilers, blast furnaces and steam engines used in various industries but most known in railway steam locomotives. The company also designed and constructed steam powered mine cable hoists. It was founded in Scranton, Pennsylvania by Thomas Dickson in 1856. In total, the company produced 1,334 steam locomotives until it was taken over by ALCO in 1901. Schenectady () is a city in Schenectady County, New York, United States, of which it is the county seat. Canadian Locomotive Company
The Canadian Locomotive Company, commonly referred to as CLC, was a Canadian manufacturer of railway locomotives located in Kingston, Ontario. Its works were located on the south side of Ontario Street between William and Gore streets on Kingston's waterfront. Early beginnings and bankruptcies The CLC had its beginnings with a number of predecessor businesses. It began business as the ''Ontario Foundry'' in 1848, but after commencing construction of locomotives it became known as the ''Kingston Locomotive Works''. The first steam locomotive was turned out on Wednesday, December 20, 1854. This was the first of four locomotives for the Grand Trunk Railway of Canada, which was being built at that time. A further order of five locomotives for the GTR followed in October and November 1856. However, less than three dozen locomotives were built before the business went bankrupt in 1860.
