Canadian Curling Hall Of Fame
The Canadian Curling Hall of Fame was established with its first inductees in 1973. It is operated by Curling Canada, the governing body for curling in Canada, in Orleans, Ontario. The Hall of Fame selection committee meets annually to choose inductees from four categories: curler, builder, curler/builder and team. Curling Canada
Curling Canada (formerly the Canadian Curling Association (CCA)) is a sanctioning body for the sport of Curling in Canada. It is associated with more than a dozen provincial and territorial curling associations across the country, and organizes Canada's national championships in the sport. It was formed in 1990 by the merger of the two previous sanctioning bodies, Curl Canada (men's) and the Canadian Ladies' Curling Association (women's). History The CCA was created in 1990 when Curl Canada and the Canadian Ladies' Curling Association amalgamated. From its creation until 2007, Dave Parkes was the general manager and then chief executive officer (CEO). Marilyn Bodogh
Marilyn C. Bodogh (also known as Marilyn Darte) (born March 9, 1955) is a Canadian curler, colour commentator and political candidate. Bodogh is best known for her two World Curling Championships in 1986 and 1996 and her two Tournament of Hearts championships to go with them. Biography Born in Toronto, Ontario, she moved to St. Catharines with her family when she was nine years old. Her first job was working with her family's lumber company. At 22, she opened a flower shop. Through marriage, she would later become co-owner of the George Darte Funeral Home. In 1980, Bodogh played third for her sister, Christine Bodogh, representing Ontario at the 1980 Canadian Ladies Curling Association Championship. In 1986, she returned to the tournament, this time known as the Scott Tournament of Hearts. Bodogh, now a skip, won the 1986 Hearts defeating the defending champion Linda Moore rink. Jan Betker
Janice "Jan" Betker (born July 19, 1960, in Regina, Saskatchewan) is a Canadian curler. Betker is best known for playing third on the Sandra Schmirler rink that won three world championships and an Olympic gold medal in the 1990s. Following Schmirler's death from cancer in 2000, Betker replaced her as the team's skip. In 2019, Betker was named the greatest Canadian female third in history in a TSN poll of broadcasters, reporters and top curlers. Curling career As part of the Schmirler team Betker won 3 Canadian curling championships in 1993, 1994, and 1997. As well the team also won 3 world championships in 1993, 1994, and 1997. Gordon Lockhart Bennett, (October 10, 1912 – February 11, 2000) was a Canadian teacher, politician and the 21st Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island. Born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, he received a Bachelor of Science in 1937 and a Master of Science in Chemistry in 1947 from Acadia University. He started to teach in a school and joined the faculty of the department of Chemistry at Prince of Wales College in 1939. In March 1966, Bennett was elected president of the Dominion Curling Association, succeeding Frank Sargent. In 1966, he was elected as a Liberal candidate as a representative of 5th Queens. Sylvia "Sue" Anne Bartlett (born 1942) is a Canadian curler, originally from Labrador City. A member of the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame, she is a 12-time Newfoundland provincial women's champion, and two-time runner up at the Canadian women's curling championship. Born in Grand Falls, Newfoundland, Bartlett moved to Labrador City in 1963 and began curling in 1964. Career Women's Bartlett and her rink of Ann Bright, Francis Hiscock and Mavis Pike won their first provincial women's championship in 1971, earning the team the right to represent Newfoundland at the 1971 Canadian Ladies Curling Association Championship in their home province.
