Canadian Bridge Federation
The Canadian Bridge FederationCBF, (La Fédération Canadienne de Bridge''FCB), is the primary organizational body for contract bridge in Canada. Like its American counterpart, the United States Bridge Federation, the CBF promotes bridge by running tournaments for youths and adults and provides financial support for teams that represent Canada in international competition. It publishes a magazine, ''Bridge Canada''. The CBF conducts the annual Canadian Bridge Championships, a multi-tournament event which includes the Canadian National Team Championships, the Canadian Women's Team Championships, the Canadian Mixed Team Championships, the Canadian Senior Team Championships, the Canadian Open Pair Championships, and the Canadian International Master Point (IMP) Championships. United States Bridge Federation
The United States Bridge Federation (USBF) is the national federation for contract bridge in the United States and a non-profit organization formed by the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) and the American Bridge Association (ABA) in 2001 to hold the United States Bridge Championships and to select, train, and support Open, Women, Senior and Junior teams to represent the United States in international competition. The American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) is a governing body for contract bridge in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Bermuda. It is the largest such organization in North America having the stated mission ''"to promote, grow and sustain the game of bridge and serve the bridge-related interests of our Members."'' World Bridge Federation
The World Bridge Federation (WBF) is the international governing body of contract bridge. The WBF is responsible for world championship competitions, most of which are conducted at a few multi-event meets on a four-year cycle. The most prestigious championships are those for national teams in Open, Women, and Seniors categories: the Bermuda Bowl, Venice Cup, and Senior Bowl (jointly the biennial "World Teams Championships"), and the quadrennial World Team Olympiads, incorporated in the World Mind Sports Games beginning 2008. The World Bridge Federation was founded August 1958 by delegates from Europe, North America, and South America (now Zones 1 to 3). Eric Murray (bridge Player)
Eric R. Murray (31 August 1928 in Hamilton, Ontario – 19 May 2018) was a Canadian contract bridge player and co-founder of the Canadian Bridge Federation (CBF). He and his long-time regular partner Sami Kehela were considered two of the best Canadian players in the history of the game. The Eric R. Murray Trophy, named in his honour, is awarded to the open team representing Canada in the quadrennial World Team Olympiad (continued after 2004 as part of the World Mind Sports Games). Murray was one of "four young bridge experts led by Robert F. Jordan" who won the annual Vanderbilt Cup in 1961, when it was contested in a 64- double-elimination tournament. Murray was already a Toronto lawyer; his bridge partner Charles Coon was manager of the Boston Chess Club. The same quartet tied for second in the Reisinger later that year and Coon–Murray went on to qualify for the 6-man North America team in the 1962 Bermuda Bowl, in which they finished second to Italy's Blue Team.
