Canada At The 2014 Winter Olympics
Canada competed at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, from February 7 to 23, 2014. Canadians competed in every discipline except Nordic combined. The 2014 Games marked the first time a Canadian Olympic team competed in Russia, as Canada and 64 western countries did not take part at the 1980 Summer Olympics held in Moscow due to the Soviet–Afghan War. The youngest athlete in Canada's delegation was figure skater Gabrielle Daleman, who turned 16 in January, while curler Jennifer Jones was the oldest athlete at 39. Canada originally finished these Olympics with 10 gold medals and 25 overall (ranking 2nd and 3rd respectively). Canadian Olympic Committee
The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC; french: Comité olympique canadien) is a private, non-profit organization that represents Canada at the International Olympic Committee (IOC). It is also a member of the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO). Curling At The 2014 Winter Olympics
The curling competition of the 2014 Winter Olympics was held at the Ice Cube Curling Center, nicknamed "the Ice Cube". It is the sixth time that curling was on the Olympic program. In both the men's and women's competitions, ten nations competed. These two events took place from 10 to 21 February 2014. The Canadian women's team went through the whole competition undefeated, the first time this has happened in an Olympic women's curling competition. Freestyle skiing at the Winter Olympics, Freestyle skiing at the 2014 Winter Olympics was held at the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park near Krasnaya Polyana, Sochi, Krasnodar Krai, Krasnaya Polyana, Russia. The ten events took place between 6–21 February 2014. In April 2011 the International Olympic Committee approved the addition of the halfpipe event for both, men and women. Catriona Le May Doan
Catriona Ann Le May Doan, (born December 23, 1970) is a retired Canadian speed skater and a double Olympic champion in the 500 m and served as the chef de mission for Team Canada at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. Career Speed skating Born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, of Scottish ancestry, Le May Doan won the Olympic 500 m title at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan and she repeated this feat at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah, giving rise to the title "the fastest woman on ice". Alexandre Bilodeau
Alexandre Bilodeau (; born September 8, 1987) is a Canadian retired freestyle skier from Rosemere, Quebec, Bilodeau currently resides in Montreal, Quebec. Bilodeau won a gold medal in the men's moguls at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, becoming the first Canadian to win a gold medal at an Olympic Games held in Canada. At the 2014 Winter Olympics, he became the first Olympian in history to defend his gold medal in any freestyle skiing event as well as the first Canadian to defend an individual title since Catriona Le May Doan at the 2002 Winter Olympics. Bilodeau is a three-time FIS World Champion in dual moguls, and is also a two-time Worlds silver medallist in moguls. Maxime Dufour-Lapointe (born February 9, 1989) is a Canadian freestyle skier from Montréal, Quebec. She competed at the 2014 Winter Olympics for Canada in moguls. Chloé Dufour-Lapointe (born 2 December 1991) is a Canadian freestyle skier. She was the 2013 FIS World Champion in dual moguls with her winning run at the 2013 World Championships. Dufour-Lapointe was the runner-up and silver medallist at the FIS Freestyle World Ski Championships 2011 as well and placed fifth at the 2010 Olympic Games. The women's moguls event in freestyle skiing at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia took place on the 6 February (first qualification) and 8 February (second qualification, semifinals, and final) at the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park in Krasnaya Polyana, Sochi. The men's slopestyle competition of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi were held at Rosa Khutor Extreme Park on 6 February (qualification) and 8 February (semifinals and final). This was the first time that a slopestyle event was included in the Olympic program. Norwegian snowboarder Torstein Horgmo, who was considered one of the medal contenders, fractured his collarbone after a crash in practice in the week before the Games, and had to miss the Olympics. His crash and complaints from other athletes that some jumps were too steep have prompted organizers to modify the slopestyle course. Mark McMorris
Mark Lee McMorris (born December 9, 1993) is a Canadian professional snowboarder who specializes in slopestyle and big air events. A three-time Olympic bronze medallist, he placed third in each of the 2014 Winter Olympics, 2018 Winter Olympics, and 2022 Winter Olympics in the slopestyle event. While filming for Transworld Snowboarding's "Park Sessions" video in March 2011, Mark became the first person to land a Backside Triple Cork 1440. More recently, on April 28, 2018, Mark landed the world first Double Cork off of a rail, the Front-Board Double Cork 1170 with melancholy grab.
