Commonwealth Sport Canada (CSC) (french: Jeux du Commonwealth Canada), formerly Commonwealth Games Canada (CGC), is the Commonwealth Games Association of Canada responsible for Commonwealth Games and the Commonwealth Sports movement in Canada. Willie De Wit
William Theodore deWit, Q.C. (born June 13, 1961) is a Justice of the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta sitting in Calgary since 2017. Previously, he was a criminal defence lawyer and a professional boxer. He represented Canada at the 1984 Summer Olympics and won a silver medal in the heavyweight division. DeWit and teammate Shawn O'Sullivan were heavily touted going into the Games, as both had won the world championship. Early years DeWit played football in high school and was an all-star quarterback. He was offered a scholarship to the University of Alberta, but decided to quit football after he began learning how to box at a Grande Prairie health club which was run by a man named Jim Murrie. Wrestling At The 1982 Commonwealth Games
The 1982 Commonwealth Games were held in Brisbane, Australia, from 30 September to 9 October 1982. The Opening Ceremony was held at the QEII Stadium (named after Elizabeth II), in the Brisbane suburb of Nathan. The QEII Stadium was also the athletics and archery events venue. Other events were held at the purpose-built Sleeman Sports Complex in Chandler. The Chairman of the 1982 Commonwealth Games was Sir Edward Williams. The 1982 Commonwealth Games Logo was designed by Hugh Edwards, who was the winner of a nationwide competition held in 1978. The symbol is derived from the form of a bounding kangaroo. The three bands, forming stylized A's (for Australia), are in colours which are common to flags of many Commonwealth countries. The mascot for the games was a cartoon kangaroo called Matilda. Anne Ottenbrite
Anne Ottenbrite (born May 12, 1966) is a Canadian former breaststroke swimmer, who won three medals at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles: gold (200-metre breaststroke), silver (100-metre breaststroke), and bronze (4×100-metre medley relay). In the last event she was accompanied by Reema Abdo, Michelle MacPherson and Pamela Rai. Kathy Bald
Katherine Ann Bald (born December 19, 1963) is a former competitive freestyle swimming, freestyle swimming (sport), swimmer from Canada. She was affiliated with the University of Toronto. Bald competed for her native country at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. There she finished in sixth position in the women's 4x100-metre freestyle relay, with her teammates Patricia Noall, Andrea Nugent and Jane Kerr. Bald won a gold medal in the 100-metre breaststroke and a silver in the 200-metre breaststroke at the 1982 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane, Australia. Alex Baumann
Alexander Baumann, (born April 21, 1964) is a Canadian sports administrator and former competitive swimmer who won two gold medals and set two world records at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. In 2007, he was regarded by the national broadcaster as "the greatest swimmer in Canadian history", as the twin Olympic gold medals were Canada's first in swimming since 1912. Since he retired from competitive swimming, he has worked as an administrator in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. In May 2021, Baumann was appointed Chief Executive of Swimming Australia. At the end of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics held in 2021, Baumann subsequently resigned the position of CEO in August 2021, citing health reasons. Victor Davis
Victor Nicolas Davis, CM (February 10, 1964 – November 13, 1989) was a Canadian Olympic and world champion swimmer who specialized in the breaststroke. He also enjoyed success in the individual medley and the butterfly. Biography Victor Davis was born in Guelph, Ontario. As a boy, Davis learned how to swim in the lakes around his home. He then joined the Guelph Marlin Aquatic Club at the age of 12. During his career, Davis held several world records as the winner of 31 national titles and 16 medals in international competition. Dan Thompson (born June 15, 1956) is a Canadians, Canadian retired swimmer. He competed in the butterfly swimming, butterfly events during the 1970s and early 1980s.
