Canada Billie Jean King Cup Team
The Canada women's national tennis represents Canada in Billie Jean King Cup tennis competition since 1963. They are overseen by Tennis Canada, the governing body of tennis in Canada. Canada has reached the semifinals in 1988, and the quarterfinals on four occasions in 1964, 1967, 1987 and 2015. It has also only missed one Fed Cup since the inaugural competition in 1963. History 1963–1994: Appearances in the World Group quarterfinals and semifinals Canada played its first tie in 1963 when the team of Ann Barclay and Louise Brown was defeated 0–3 by Great Britain in World Group first round. Canada and its team of Benita Senn, Vicki Berner and Louise Brown reached the World Group quarterfinals in 1964 with a 2–1 victory over Sweden in the second round, but was defeated 0–3 the next round by Australia. 1963 Federation Cup (tennis)
The 1963 Federation Cup was the first edition of what is now known as the Fed Cup. The tournament was created provide a team competition for women, similar to the Davis Cup men's competition. 16 nations participated in the first event, which was held at the Queen's Club in London, United Kingdom from 17–20 June. The Japan women's national tennis team represents Japan in Fed Cup tennis competition and are governed by the Japan Tennis Association. Patricia Hy-Boulais
Patricia Hy-Boulais (born 22 August 1965) is a former tennis player. She turned professional on 12 October 1986. Early in her career she represented Hong Kong (since the beginning until the end of the 1987 season). She became a citizen of Canada in 1991. However, she represented Canada since the beginning of the 1988 season. Her best performance at a Grand Slam came when she got to the quarter finals of the 1992 US Open, defeating Eva Švíglerová, Judith Wiesner, Jennifer Capriati and Helena Suková before losing to eventual champion Monica Seles. After Hy-Boulais did it in 1992, Canada did not have another woman to survive into the second week at the French Open until Aleksandra Wozniak did it in 2009. The Italy women's national tennis team represents Italy in international women's tennis and is directed by the Federazione Italiana Tennis. The team played in the first ever tournament in 1963, and is one of four teams that has taken part in every single edition since. The Czech Republic women's national tennis team is the representative national team of the Czech Republic in Billie Jean King Cup competition. The Czech Republic team in its current incarnation began competing in 1993. It is seen as the primary successor to the Czechoslovak team, and not Slovakia, even though the Czechoslovak team included both Czech and Slovak players. Czechoslovakia won the Billie Jean King Cup five times between 1975 and 1988 (when the competition was known as the Federation Cup), but the victory in 2011 (by which time the competition had been renamed the Fed Cup) was the team's first win as the Czech Republic. The Russia women's national tennis team represented Russia in Billie Jean King Cup tennis competition and are governed by the Russian Tennis Federation. They compete in the World Group. Carling Kathrin Bassett-Seguso (born 9 October 1967) is a former Canadian professional tennis player. Bassett is the daughter of John F. Bassett and Susan Carling, and the granddaughter of media baron John Bassett and politician and brewery executive John Carling. She was inducted into the Ontario Sports Hall of Fame in 2003. Tennis career In 1981, Bassett won the Canadian junior indoor tennis title. In 1982, she was ranked No. 2 junior player in the world, after winning events in Tokyo and Taipei. That year, she also became the youngest winner of the Canadian closed championship at the age of 14. She won the title again in 1983 and in 1986. By age 16, Bassett was Canada's top tennis player.
