Campo Grande
Campo Grande (, ) is the capital and largest city of the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul in the Center-West region of the country. The city is nicknamed ''Cidade Morena'' ("Swarthy City" in Portuguese) because of the reddish-brown colour of the region's soil. It has a population of 906,092, according to a 2020 IBGE estimate,. The region where the city is located was in the past a waypoint for travellers who wanted to go from São Paulo or Minas Gerais to northern Mato Grosso by land. In the early 1900s a railway was completed connecting Campo Grande to Corumbá, on the Bolivian border, and to Bauru, São Paulo. Also in the beginning of the 20th century, the Western Brazilian Army Headquarters was established in Campo Grande, making it an important military center. With a population growth from 140,000 people in 1970 to 750,000 people in 2008, Campo Grande is the third largest urban center of the Center-West region, and the 23rd largest city in the country. Campo Grande is the largest neighborhood in the Rio de Janeiro#West Zone, West Zone of Rio de Janeiro. Campo Grande has a population of 328,370 inhabitants and an area of 119,1253 sq km (46 sq mi), on both counts Rio's largest. It is situated 50 kilometers (31 miles) away from Rio de Janeiro#Centro, Downtown Rio. History Campo Grande, which in the early 1940s was considered the "Empire of the Orange", grew along with the settlement of Brazil. The valley, which begins in the Rio da Prata and ends in Cabuçu, was inhabited by Picinguabas and granted by the Portuguese Crown to Barcelos Domingos. In 1673, Domingos built the chapel of Our Lady of the Exile, which later became the parish church of Campo Grande. Campo Grande International Airport
Campo Grande International Airport , sometimes also informally referred to as Antônio João Airport, after the neighborhood where it is located, is the airport serving Campo Grande, Brazil. During a transitional period, the airport is jointly operated by Infraero and AENA. Some of its facilities are shared with the Campo Grande Air Force Base of the Brazilian Air Force. History The airport started operating in the 1930s as a military airfield. In the 1950s, the airport began to operate with commercial flights. The passenger terminal was dedicated in 1964. Since 1975 it is operated by Infraero. The passenger terminal was enlarged from 1,500m² to 5,000m² during the 1980s and to 6,082 m in 19982. Previously operated by Infraero, on August 18, 2022 the consortium AENA won a 30-year concession to operate the airport. The Campo Grande (English: "Large Field") is a large public park located in the heart of the city of Valladolid, Spain. It is triangular, has a 115,000 m² (11.5 ha) surface and is bordered by the streets Acera de Recoletos, Paseo de los Filipinos and Paseo de Zorrilla. Its main entrance is at Plaza de Zorrilla, where together with a modern bill gate lies a floral shield of the city. The park is enclosed around its perimeter by a simple fence that runs between pillars, with entrances on all sides. Compared with the Retiro Park in Madrid, it is 10 times smaller in size (11.5 ha compared to 118), and almost 30 times smaller in size than Central Park in New York City (11.5 ha compared to 341).
